Positives:

1. Great defensive rebounding percentage. His teams apparently box out. 16th nationally in 2010, 7th nationally in 2011. (for reference, UT this year was 137th out of 345)

2. Great offensive turnover rate. 29th nationally in 2010, 15th nationally in 2011. (for reference, UT this year was 148th)

3. Decent (not great) FG%. They shot 2-pointers slightly better than UT...shot 3-pointers WAAAY better (but who didn't).

Negatives:

4. Defense. They don't have a good defensive FG%. In 2010 they allowed teams to shoot 37.6% from the arc (313th nationally). In 2011 they allowed 48.9% from 2 (225th nationally). By comparison, Tennessee was 103rd defending the 3, and 128th defending the 2. I question whether Cuonzo's teams are getting back in transition, contesting every shot, defending the screen, generally playing sound defense.

5. Offensive coaching? If you're going to hire an up-and-comer type of coach, from a mid-major league, you'd like to see crazy-good 2-point percentages. Excellent from 2 usually means the coach is getting the guys really high-percentage looks. Billy Donovan's teams at Florida are unbelievable at 2-point percentage EVERY YEAR, even when the overall team is average. This tells me they have a good plan for getting high-percentage looks, and they know how to execute it. Martin's teams aren't getting high-percentages on 2's, which disturbs me a bit.
