New Baseball Coach

Bottom line - What is the story behind selection of our new baseball coach? Here in north Alabama, the Troy coach is regarded as gold! He is very good.

Yep, I think Bobby Pierce would be a great choice. I think I mentioned below that I have sent his name, bio and stats to the athletic department...not that they would listen to me, but at least that paper had to pass through someone's hands on the way to the trash can.

I hear that Pawlowski at Coastal Carolina (I believe) and Serrano (UCI) are in the hunt with Toman (USC) and O'Sullivan (Clempson).

We just need to get it right this time. Delmonico has underachieved for years. It was time for a change. Cerrano has been impressive.

Bobby Pierce, John Pawloski, Kevin O'Sullivan, Toman, Schoenrock are all great candidates. Serrano will not come to Tennessee. Mark it on your calendars he is to deep rooted in California to come to Tennessee.

you may be right, you probably are right, but the deafening silence of this search leads me to believe we'll at least speak to him. Since UF just hired O'Sullivan from Clempson, and Toman has been finished up for a week (with no news), I think MH will speak to Serrano and would be shocked to hear otherwise. Even Serrano has a "no comment" response when asked.

I totally agree, they will at least afford the courtesy of talking to Serrano. Florida gets a nice hire in O'Sullivan. Takes Florida only a week, must be the pay.

MH Silence leads me to believe that he is also looking at Louisville. Just wish that something would come out of this.

MH silence leads me to believe he is looking at one or more that has been involved in the super-regionals up to this point. The only 2 left that I THINK we're looking at are Serrano and Toman. I think Mike has already said he's not going to make a knee-jerk hire and is considering HCs, ACs and even pro coaching prospects.

UF likely got a good one in O'Sullivan although he doesn't have a record as a HC (manager).

Schoenrock appears to be ready to sign an extension in Memphis through 2011.

I have a gut feel that the Louisville coach may not be a target as he's only been there 50 weeks. That'd be too soon to jump jobs IMO and I don't think Hammy would want someone who would jump ship after less than a year.

But, all of the above is just speculation and I ain't betting on any of it.

Excited about Raleigh!

I know its early, but I'm pretty excited about the new coach from what I've seen, heard etc. Talked with one of his ex-players at Western Carolina and they say is he one hard nosed, puts up with no crap, scrappy, fight till death types. Would not even allow them to wear their hats backwards. If he caught you around campus wearing it the wrong way there was hell to pay. Really like the idea of getting the Orange back in the uniforms and going to a Orange hat with the Power T. Could never figure out why we did not do that 25 years ago even. Chad Maddox should have stayed another year under someone like this. Would have done him a world of good. He is getting his butt handed to him in low A ball. Hitting something like .075 . Another words, he will get released in about 30 days. Anyway, lets get behind him and see what he can build the next few years. Impressive asst. coaches too. Great to have Corral back!

What's with all this complaining about the black in our baseball uniforms? We have had black in the uniforms for over 70 years. We had black in our uniforms when we went to the College World Series back in the '50s.

Besides, this isn't football; orange and white only jerseys would not look good. In baseball, a dark color, imo, is a must.
