If you get in the SEC tourney (top 8 in conference), you are pretty much guaranteed a regional bid, or whatever the next round is called.

yep, the SEC should get 8. There have been cases where teams didn't make the SEC tourney but made the NCAA but I don't think it happens often.

Is it the overall record or the sec record that determines your position? And is it the top 4 east vs top 4 west or overall sec standings?

It is SEC record that determines whether you get in, and it is the 8 best records, doesn't matter what division.

They still have a legitimate shot at both the SEC and NCAA Tournaments, but they have a tough road to get there. Ole Miss and South Carolina at home then Florida on the road is going to make it very difficult to make up ground. I don't think they can afford to lose any of those series, and it would definitely help to sweep someone, but I just don't see that happening.
