Vols vs. Lipscomb

The Basevols took on Lipscomd this afternoon. It may be over by now, but the game tracker says that UT is up 4-2 in the top of the 9th. Hopefully they can hold off and take this one.

Nice win. Lipscomb is a team that came into the game playing better than we have been with wins over Auburn (in a midweek single game) and a series win over LSU this past weekend.

Vols now 8-7, Bisons now 11-6.

This makes 2 games in a row that our bullpen has had some success, i.e., been able to hold on for us to get the W. This will pay off for us down the road, provided the defense can improve.

The pitching did a pretty nice job - better than we have been doing midweek the last couple of years. Lockwood started and went 3 scoreless. Nick Hernandez gets the win (his first as a VOL), going 4.2 innings with 1ER on 3H. He had 3K, but 3BB. Danny Wiltz is looking to be our shut down guy; got his second save in as many appearances.

Yan Gomes got our first 2 RBI in the 7th inning rally to take the lead. Following his 4RBI performance (all of 'em) in Sunday's win, he had driven in 6 consecutive Tennessee runs....

2 more errors today and 1 unearned run. Arggh. It's better than other days, though. We were able to overcome, nonetheless.

Let's get ready for Siena and continue to improve. This season is young and we have a lot of possibilities. Keep the faith.

Im glad that the bullpen is showing improvement. Everything looks like its getting better, but the wrrors need to get lower.

Hopefully Lockwood can keep doing well and become a closer for us.

Good post as always Perry, I love your optimism. I have to admit though, your opponent analysis reminds me a bit of Lou Holtz. Everybody we play is awesome.

Seriously though, thanks for the insight.

Yan Gomes to stay at catcher and Arencibia move to first or vice versa? Or does Gomes DH when J.P. comes back? What are your thoughts about that? Gomes' bat is too hot to remove from the lineup IMO
