With the second half of the 2016 season well under way, Tennessee Baseball has 19 former players who have made appearances on professional baseball fields. In the minor leagues, several VFLs have continued their offensive success with their respective clubs, including huge home runs from Nick Senzel, Christin Stewart and A.J. Simcox.

Will Maddox -- 2B, West Michigan Whitecaps (A - Detroit Tigers)
Season: .351, 92 G, 132 H, 47 R, 19 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 42 RBI, 18 SB
Last week (July 22-28), Maddox erupted for the Whitecaps and went 11-for-29 (.379) at the plate, including a 5-for-8, two RBI effort against Peoria on July 22. Over his last 10 games, the infielder owns a .422 average with eight RBI and seven runs scored.

He's got to be called up to AA soon with those type of numbers. Man, he's tearing it up.

This has him listed as 2B. I saw him play a couple of times this season and he was always at 1B. Wonder if he is playing multiple positions?

Maddox is a prime example of an organizational guy. He will keep a job as long as he keeps swinging the bat. He's 24 years old in low A ball. Definitely not a major league prospect because he can't play shortstop. Most minor league teams have 20 filler type guys and 4-5 real prospects. He's certainly having a heck of a season.

Maddox was drafted in 2014, missed all but 13 games last year with broken foot (had surgery). He started in low A last year and batted .390 when he was injured. He is not currently listed as a top 30 prospect, but Tigers minor league player of the month for June, and has started in nearly all of the games and batted third in all but a handful of games. Has played seond, first and DH. Currently leads Midwest league in batting average .349 and hits (135 hits in 97 games). Also has 18 steals. He does need to solidify a position and/or become true utility type player. Has highest batting average in Tigers minor league system and leads in hits., 4th in on base percentage. Mentioned more and more as serious prospect. Very little movement in Tigers position players this summer, especially infielders. Rather play everyday than move up and sit. Obviously, long way to go, but certainly making progress. He is not at this point a "filler type player". Next summer will be critical summer. Needs to prove can continue to hit at high A and hopefully AA. Living the dream either way. By the way, Stewie leads Tiger minor leagues, with homeruns, and sluuging percentage and is 3rd in RBI and 2nd in on base percentage. Odds are long on any player taken outside of top couple of rounds, but no chance if you are not playing. Go vols!
