There is some in the Around the SEC thread. Looks like O'Sullivan is option 1A,1B, and 1C there.

We should hire him. Take all of Texas' fired coaches

His time was up awhile back. The game has passed him by and frankly his treatment of players tarnishes his legacy greatly IMO

D1 Baseball...

Let’s start this off by once again looking at the big elephant in the room – The Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns reassigned head coach Augie Garrido two weeks ago, and there’s been plenty of buzz around college baseball. Well, we know a lot of the dynamics surrounding the Longhorns coaching search, and what we can tell you at this point is that sources in Austin strongly believe that Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan is the primary target, along with Virginia’s Brian O’Connor another high level option. Educated opinions on O’Connor definitely vary, with some close to him saying he would stay put, while others close to the situation say he’d certainly take a look. O’Connor certainly isn’t going to speak on the matter, but it’s something to keep an eye on moving forward. I don’t expect Tim Corbin to evolve into a serious candidate, especially considering the latest and highly unfortunate happenings around the Vanderbilt program over the past week. Corbin is a man of high character and he wouldn’t leave his program behind after everything they’ve been through. I also feel like it would be a mistake for Corbin to leave behind what he has. Never say never, but for now, I’m crossing Corbin off the list. Texas Rangers third base coach and former Longhorn Spike Owen is heavily interested in the job, though sources say that scenario is highly unlikely, while another former big league manager has shown interest in the UT opening, but isn’t expected to be a serious candidate. We are hearing the Longhorns are very likely to look out of state for their next head coach as well. Tulane’s David Pierce could be in the mix if the Longhorns don’t ink one of their top options, while other possibilities could surface in the coming days or weeks.

• We expect another head coaching job at a program with a ton of potential to come open in the next couple of days. Stay tuned for the very latest, but the potential candidates for this vacancy would be excellent.

Finding a replacement is becoming a joke.

Turned down 5 times and counting.

Most college baseball head coaching jobs have a regional or local 'fit' to them. Many of the most successful guys around the country are in their comfort zone due to being in familiar territory. They are at their alma mater or at least in an area of the country they grew up in or extensively worked in.

The AD at Texas is conducting this search like he is looking for a head football coach. With a head count sport like football you can bring in an outsider because the full scholarships allow you to recruit a broader area of the country. In an equivalency sport like baseball I think it's more important to find the familiar fit because piecing together a roster is an art and college affordability is much bigger factor in recruiting.

Many of the guys who they have been interested in would be successful coaches in a lot of places but they probably have reached the pinnacle of their profession because they are the right fit at their schools for the reasons I have previously listed. Their are guys in Texas or who have been at Texas who would do a great job there.

Meanwhile, the Big 12 program that has the richest CWS history of the nine baseball-playing schools is three weeks into its search for a new coach. The move to have Augie Garrido step aside was correct but finding a replacement for the coach who has won more games than anyone has turned into an embarrassing series of “thanks, but no thanks.”

Athletic director Mike Perrin, who has less than a year’s experience running an athletic department, has aimed high. But so far, all he’s done is helped those candidates enhance the deals at their current schools.

The list so far includes Virginia’s Brian O’Connor, UCLA’s John Savage, Oregon State’s Pat Casey (who actually turned down the UT offer), Louisville’s Dan McDonnel, Florida’s Kevin O’Sullivan and LSU’s Paul Mainieri.

Texas recently interviewed Tulane’s David Pierce and Houston’s Todd Whitting. UT might be waiting until the CWS is over to try to money whip TCU’s Jim Schlossnagle and/or Oklahoma State’s Josh Holliday. Schlossnagle recently verbally agreed to a contract extension but it hasn’t been signed.

OMAHA — The coaching carousel continues to rage on around the country, and while we take an inside look at what has happened at Texas over the past couple of weeks, along with what lies ahead, we also have the inside scoop on several openings out there, including Purdue, Army, Jacksonville, Villanova, Florida International, San Jose State and Oakland.

What’s the scoop on coaching changes and more in college baseball? Come find out.

Texas

• So, how about that big elephant in the room, the Texas job? So, here we are about a week removed from when all the juicy happenings were going on in Austin. The Longhorns were trying to court UCLA’s John Savage, Oregon State’s Pat Casey and LSU’s Paul Mainieri all in a matter of 24-48 hours. Well, that plan backfired on the Longhorns as all three initially showed interest but chose to stay put. That was a calculated risk for the ‘Horns, who frankly, should have gone ahead and offered the job to Savage, who actually tripped to Austin to check out the University of Texas campus and meet with Longhorns officials.

Now, how do things look? Well, the Longhorns are supposedly in a holding pattern, as those high up the food chain in Austin have urged the administration to tap the brakes a little bit. We do know that Houston’s Todd Whitting and Tulane’s David Pierce interviewed for the vacancy late last week, and neither has been offered the job. We also know there’s at least some interest in Dallas Baptist head coach Dan Heefner, too, but it’s highly unlikely he will get the job. However, we also continue to be told the Longhorns will wait a few more days to press forward on the coaching search.

What’s that mean for the search? The Longhorns could be looking at Oklahoma State’s Josh Holliday, TCU’s Jim Schlossnagle or Texas Tech’s Tim Tadlock. There are a few things wrong with that, however. For instance, sources have not listed Holliday as a viable option, Schlossnagle has agreed to a new, lucrative, deal at TCU (verbally) and Tadlock might not an option. Why, you ask? Well, the terms attached to Tadlock’s contract are not that of someone who could leave Texas Tech for Texas very easily. As a matter of fact, sources referred to the contract as “a mess, and filled with a lot of challenges” for someone such as the Longhorns trying to pry him out of Lubbock.

No one knows where the Longhorns are headed with their coaching search at the moment, but they’re clearly in a holding pattern for a good reason. With that, we continue to be asked about Kevin O’Sullivan’s interest in the opening. O’Sullivan will not be going to Texas, as his new contract with the Gators has been signed, sealed and delivered.

Sources have referred to Texas athletic director Mike Perrin and his associates as incredibly nice people, but UT fans have to be sitting around wondering how the coaching search for one of the nation’s premier programs has gone so awry the past couple of weeks. How this baseball search has been conducted should sound some alarm bells for a school that could find itself having another football coaching search in the next year.

The Texas job is an incredible one in college baseball, and it simply shouldn’t be this hard to sell that to the coaches the Longhorns have targeted.

Stay tuned on the UT search.
