West Coast's Division 1 college baseball teams facing their biggest RPI nightmare yet - The Orange County Register

A somewhat interesting article and some interesting numbers. Certainly some good points made...while we wait for the game to start...

The NCAA process has annually been heavily skewed toward major conference teams in the South, the SEC and ACC, so area coaches are used to this. It’s just that the tilt has never been this lopsided.

The current RPI features 18 teams from the south in the top 20, even though six played lightweight schedules with nonconference strength-of-schedule ratings of 106 or higher (Virginia, Clemson, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State).

One projection has nine SEC and 10 ACC teams in the tournament with those conferences playing host to 12 of the 16 regionals, including five ACC teams that have sub.-500 records in league play.

Kinda want to feel some sympathy for them but when a team like Tennessee can take a series from UCI and the combined score is 26-7 or beating St. Mary's straight up when they are one of four teams that clinch a spot a for their four team tourney or beating Grand Canyon by 17 runs...kinda hard to trust they are as deserving as they think they are.
