Tough to watch

Good man and good coach that has made some mistakes

Would love to see a good west coast job come open in the next two weeks and him bolt before the axe falls here

Same here. Is really well liked by players and administrators but he also realizes that winning is what matters.

Even when he is let go (contract not renewed) he will land somewhere and do a good job. For all the talk of football being tough in the SEC, baseball is just as if not a tougher job to rebuild.

I guess this is somewhat on topic, don't know that it's thread worthy because the discussion never deals with any of the issues, but...

We simply don't recruit well enough. Most important, we've got to do a better job of recruiting pitchers; with top pitchers, you can play with anybody. Without top pitchers, you get waxed in a tough conference like the SEC. Look at today's game--we scored 7 but gave up 10 runs. Gave up a lot of runs yesterday, too, I think. Get Better Pitchers.

I know they probably won't, but I hope they give him 1 more year. Normally I would not be supportive of giving a coach that long, but his track record (with no previous down times in it btw) speaks for itself. Plus like others have said he has represented program well in all other aspects. Plus it is hard with the way baseball does scholarships.

Sorry, but Serrano's got to go. His record is just so-so and there are no indications with his signing class that it's going to get any better.

He's had 5 years to recruit his own players, but somehow he hasn't found the formula to entice good players to come to Tennessee.

Admittedly though, he's better than that bozo hothead Todd Raleigh. Raleigh attracted some great players, but he couldn't get along with any of them. Not to mention that his coaching was way sub-par. Even the players rebelled against him...never seen that before.

Delmonico was good, but in his final years, he became a fat cat, forgetting that you have to smooze the big donors, the folks with money that will drop several hundred thou on your program. He took it for granted that he'd always be at Tennessee....except when you start losing and stop smoozing.

Let's (once again) start anew, send Serrano back to California, dump his crew and hire somebody who not only recruits great players, but coaches them to their full potential.

I like CDS and respect his candor and I know he is a solid baseball man. However, if Hart retains him he is sending a message to other coaches (other than football and m&w basketball) that mediocrity is accepted at UT. Serrano is the fourth highest paid head coach in UT athletics. 30 years ago mediocrity on the field might be tolerated more because the investment was minimal. When you pay a coaching staff over $700,000 annually, you have to get better results or look elsewhere.

Kendall Rogers: "Refreshing honesty from Dave Serrano. He's a great coach, and his not working out at Tennessee is shocking."

Getting rid of Delmonico was a terrible idea. Hiring Todd Raleigh was an even worse idea.

Injuries have played a role in this team's success level this season. Losing Serrano's son to injury sure hurt.

Unless there is a clear candidate out there that is available we should probably stick with Serrano and sign him to another two (2) year extension. His success at Fullerton and Irvine proves he can coach. I believe the biggest part of his problem is that he is trying to build back a program in the toughest conference in America and he has had some bad luck with injuries.

He needs to recruit bigger players .... Bigger pitchers look at the size of our players versus the rest of the sec... We need guys who can bring the heat this league is 90% about pitching and you have to have more then just starters... All the good coaches in this league understand that

I agree to a point but one player shouldn't make a team!!!! He is a pitching specialist and our relief pitchers are horrible...he has got to recruit hitters and bigger players to compete in this conference... He still makes dumb decisions during gameplay

During the entire Serrano era, the Vols have not had one pitcher who would have been a weekend starter for ANY other team in the SEC. The Vols have to recruit some power arms and some power hitters! Until that happens, they will continue to struggle to win that "coveted 12th spot" in the SEC.

With that being said, I don't think the UTAD will make a move. Look for a 2-3 year extension.

Being a pitcher, Serrano's son's impact on games is expodentially greater. Therefore his loss was expodentially greater. This is true everywhere. What kind of team would Florida be if they didn't have one of their starting pitchers? They would be good, but would they lead the SEC and be number 1 in the nation? I would argue no.

I do agree that we do have some small-sized players on the team compared to practically every other team in the conference. Might all be part of the whole small-ball philosophy.

Delmonico is gone & THAT is good! Serrano will succeed elsewhere in he is fired. So name a successful coach who would take the UT job!

Florida, Vandy and other elite teams wouldn't miss a weekend starter like you think they would. They have real depth in their pitching staff and we have zero
