We got 3 innings in with these guys back on March 3rd before the game was cancelled due to rain and MT was winning at the time. Since then they have lost every midweek game they have played.
Still, if the season ended today, they would be CUSA Champions. They are tied with Florida Atlantic but they took the series from them so they own the head to head tie breaker.
Those mid week losses play a part in their RPI ranking of 70, they are better than that.
The Blue Raiders are lead by former Vol Jared Allen (clean up) at the plate. He leads the team with 10 home runs and 35 RBI. Allen always plays well against us. Ronnie Jebavy (.366, 3 spot) and Brad Jarreau (.333, lead off) are also big contributors to the offense. Jebavy has stolen 16 of 18 bases or half of the teams 32.
Middle has had their share of problems in the field...like us. They've had 46 errors through 35 games and third baseman Jake Ingold is responsible for 10 of them. That said, going into the past weekend MT ranked 32 in the NCAA in turning double plays.
Jr. RHP Garrett Ring (0-1) will get the start. His ERA is 6.65. He's walked 20 batters in 23 innings while getting 15 K's. Not a good ratio.
Fr. LHP Zach Warren (2-0) gets the start for the Vols. Warren has pitched 16 innings in his 3 starts for UT, walking 6 while striking out 11. His ERA is 3.38.
We will probably see several guys get work for both teams.
MTSU has played us tough the last several years and I expect this one to be the same. If we have the bats going I like our chances, if not, could be a long evening. We have more to lose in a loss than they do. Hopefully the players understand this.
