In CDS's first year, 2012, the Vols took 92 free bases on HBP.

In 2013 that figure dropped to 63 HBP.

This year, 35 HBP.

#TakeOneForTheTeam.

How does that compare to team BA, BBs and SACs, though?

If it's not because we have better alternatives to HBP with this lineup, then absolutely ... #takeonefortheteam

I plan on doing sort of an end of the year type comparison of all three Serrano years, I've already got some of it done...Off the top of my head, the '12 team was batting around .250, '13 .275, and about .280 this year...

I've seen a couple this year AJ and Maddox would have taken last year...

Mostly, I just posted it for fun.

I coach a 7U coach-pitch team, and I still teach them about turning away and taking it!

(I don't actually suggest they do it, of course. Don't wanna rattle our pitcher! :)

I knew Fritts had to be one of the leaders in that category.

I'm pretty sure I saw him at the UGA series. Anyone know what he's doing these days?

HBP in my opinion is an important stat. It's difficult to get consecutive hits. You need walks and HBP to have big innings.

Walks in general are important. Walks are as good as singles. We're not having that issue. Our issue is that we leave runners in scoring position.

Works for an insurance company in Atlanta. His wife, former Lady Vol Cat Hosfield Fritts, is the pitching coach at Kennesaw State for their softball team.
