| Breaking Barriers to Make 'The Show' Like most aspiring major leaguers, Yan Gomes faced long odds of making it to "The Show" after leaving Tennessee following the 2008 season. Just four years later, he beat those odds, breaking barriers en route to earning a call up to the Toronto Blue Jays, and finding a familiar face when he got there. More...

| Very darn sad that a proud athletic department would allow a kid that transferred out of the university to have an article written on the website. Appalling that the baseball program is somehow accepting this as one of their own by putting this online. |

Gomes is a guy that works out here in the offseason, makes his home here, and has been a supporter of our program, despite being run off by Raleigh. I honestly can't see the issue with them highlighting the accomplishments of someone who openly and proudly identifies himself as a Vol.
I enjoyed the story, had no idea he was the first Brazilian in the majors. Congrats to him. |

It was so sad to see a guy that was so deserving to be here get run off by a guy who wasn't. He loved it here and he loved the game. I wish him the best and hope he continues to make the University proud. He is and will always be a Vol. |

| I don't know the story for his departure. I am sure TR is at fault but the bottom line he isn't a Vol and claiming him as one here is sad. Very little difference in this and a kid that wanted to be a Vol but was overlooked in recruiting.

The tweets from @VOL_Baseball said this was the first in a series from a weekend at the Braves-Blue Jays series, so I assume Arencibia will be next.

Where is the line drawn for you guys? toles, Horne, Rowland, or carter make it to the big leagues do they deserve the same?
If they played at another university after here then the UTAD shouldn't write a story claiming them as a Vol.

| If they did things right while they were at UT (went to class, stayed out of trouble, gave good effort) and they still identify themselves as Vols, there's nothing wrong with the program celebrating their later accomplishments. Players who were sent packing for misconduct or academic ineligibility, no. Players who left in good standing, yes--as long as they still see themselves as part of the extended Vol community. |

The fact that you can't see the difference in these situations makes me think you're a raging moron.
