Both of these guys were big contributers to this years team. I'm not sure what Serrano's plan is but I have a feeling he may be out the door himself before long....
Serrano will take Tennessee back to Omaha. Period. There is zero doubt in my mind about that. I am very confused by the alleged dismissal of both of them as well, though. I think can see dismissing Steck, based on the fact that I don't think he is the type of guy Serrano would have recruited. Fritts, however seems very much like the kind of player Serrano wants, and as far as I know was a significant leader this year on and off the field.

It is hard to trust a man that has booted so much talent from the team in less than a year, but I do. I really do think he is going to get this thing going in a serious kind of way. Here's hoping its soon rather than later.

There's no way DS forced out Steckenrider...he was our best pitcher and pitched in half the games...he'll be a top 10 round pick and sign

And Fritts...while he was a good defensive CF, he batted below .250

Steck has been invited back, but he'll likely go pro if drafted high enough. MLB teams draft on potential and the guy oozes it.

Steck is leaving because he hates school. Fritts was let go because of attitude, Serrano and Fritts had clashed on a few occasions during the season. There was a total of five let go or released, several others was invited back but without money..mostly pitchers.

Thanks. I never got the impression of Fritts having any attitude problems. Very sad to hear. Thanks for the insight.

As for Steck, from what I know of him that makes sense. However, why would this become public knowledge? He basically just ditched his junior leverage. And with the new draft rules, he may really take a pay cut.

Great point on the leverage lost here. Terrible decision by Steck or the staff by letting this get out there.

Steck didn't hide his feelings about leaving and didn't even go to his meeting with Serrano from my sources. I agree not very smart IMO!

Fritts is a fiery kind of guy and the type of player I would think Serrano likes. Not sure about the "clashes" you mentioned and still don't agree with letting a player that could be one of your leaders next season go. Maybe not the best hitter but had a heck of a glove in CF. Made ESPN Top 10 plays twice in his career.

Fritts is gone because he is not a leader and apparently in the eyes of the staff part of the culture problem and not a part of the soultion. Experience and leadership are two different things.

No I don't. However I do know that he had several other D1 offers that I am sure would still stand if the NCAA would allow him to be immediately eligible.
