New Commit 5/12/12

@johnvarlas: MUS pitcher @wdanielharris says he'll play his college ball at Tennessee. Harris is 9-0 this season.

Varlas is Commercial Appeal Preps Reporter...

So that means 2 from MUS plus walk-on catcher from last year

PG had his fastball at 86 last summer

Daniel Harris is a 2012 RHP with a 5-10 178 lb. frame from Memphis, TN who attends Memphis University School. Harris has a high 3/4 arm slot, long quick arm action, good feel for straight change up, online delivery that is easy to repeat, good arm side run on arm side run, change up has 11/5 spin that shows sharpness, solid command, outstanding student.
PG Grade: 8.0 [Grading Scale]

no offense, but is this the proper place to put a baseball committ. every time I see we got a new committ thread I open it hoping for a highly touted dt or rb. Getting a pitcher doesn't exactly make things that much more exciting

Just reading that made me realize I know nothing about baseball. I hope he does well though.

I typically don't interject on these things, but whoever wrote this report doesn't have the slightest clue about evaluating a pitcher.

Long and quick? That's like saying Kevin Gregg and David Robertson have identical throwing motions.

11/5 spin? That's a lefty breaking ball. If he's really spinning a 11/5 hook, somebody taught him the Dice-K Gyro-ball. Righty spin is 1/7 (think about it).

Basically, we are getting an undersized pitcher who may or may not be right handed that also throws a backwards curveball and whose arm action has both yin and yang qualities. Interesting...

I'd venture to say your knowledge of baseball is at least on par with the writer of that review. The reason you didn't understand it was because it is riddled with technical errors and sloppy, misuse of baseball jargon.

I noticed that too. Lots of errors in there. "Good arm side run on arm side run"...lol

We dont have one pitcher on our roster that small, let's put it that way.. Colleges want big, powerful guys on the mound ideally.. In before Greg Maddox reference..

Ok that review is a little messy. However, he said his change up has 11/5 spin. Not curve ball. This just means his change up cuts toward a righty and that is completely normal for a right handed pitcher.
