Sounds like an APR issue.

Here's what I posted when it came out: Link

Quote:
The NCAA released their latest APR scores and the Vols were, for the most part, doing fine. The goal for APR scores is a 925. The football team scored a 926 and the bball team scored a 918. The bball team was not penalized because of the small number of players on the team now.

The baseball team was the only UT squad to lose scholarships. They scored an 850 and will lose 1.17 scholarships for the upcoming season. This was adversely affected by the fact that UT had players leave for MLB before graduating. To me, baseball needs to be looked at completely different because so many go pro early.

The Lady Vols had no sports below the 925 mark.

They didn't have guys leave early to go pro. Not many people realize it, but baseball will get hit harder with this rule than any other sport. What crap.

I still hate the whole APR thing. They could have gone about this different and better ways. It's just the NCAA trying to level everything out even more.

I heard Delmonico talking about this issue on 990. In college baseball, guys go pro all the time because the minor league system in baseball is so good. Also, many who know they are going pro after the season will forego summer classes, because those grades don't come out until after the summer. All these factors count against the total team credits and graduation rates.

Athletes leaving early should never count against the future. Who among us would have stayed in school if we were offered a $1 million job after our sophomore year? No one, but they expect more from these guys and it's ridiculous.

Back to Back Top 10 Classes are Flopping all over the place. Could it be coaching?

The coach needs to make sure his guys are going to class and getting decent grades. The apr gets hurt when you leave in bad academic standing.

So, you would go to summer classes, once your season has ended and you have been taken in the MLB draft??? Interesting.

The APR gets hurt when you leave anytime. As soon as the player is in school the clock starts ticking. No matter what the reason is, once enrolled, leaving counts against the school.

Actually our grades aren't the issue. Last year we lost several to the amateur draft. If Hochevar had been allowed to return, we'd be OK.

As to this year's team, we are very young and have looked "young" so far. After losing Hochevar, you could count on some drop-off in pitching as he was one of the best college pitchers ever. Delominco has proven his abililty to coach, we need the team to grow up a little and gel.

I'm just worried b/c it isn't just the pitching that has been poor... fielding errors have been an issue at times.
