If you've been watching NCAA basketball this year, you've noticed that UCLA is relevant again..

If you look at UCLA and the UT LadyVol's program over the past 10 years, you'll notice a few similarities..

2006–07 Ben Howland 30–6 NCAA Final Four
2007–08 Ben Howland 35–4 NCAA Final Four
2008–09 Ben Howland 26–9 NCAA Round of 32
2009–10 Ben Howland 14–18
2010–11 Ben Howland 23–11 NCAA Round of 32
2011–12 Ben Howland 19–14
2012–13 Ben Howland 25–10 NCAA Round of 64

2013–14 Steve Alford 28–9 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2014–15 Steve Alford 22–14 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2015–16 Steve Alford 15–17
2016-17 Steve Alford ( currently ranked #2 10-0, with a win over recent #1 UK!

(Pat Summit)
2006–07# Tennessee 34–3 NCAA Champions
2007–08† Tennessee 36–2 NCAA Champions
2008–09 Tennessee 22–11 NCAA First Round
2009–10 Tennessee 32–3 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2010–11 Tennessee 34–3 NCAA Elite Eight
2011–12 Tennessee 27–9 NCAA Elite Eight
Holly Warlick (2012–present)
2012–13 Tennessee 27–8 NCAA Elite Eight
2013–14 Tennessee 29–6 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2014–15 Tennessee 30–6 NCAA Elite Eight
2015–16 Tennessee 22–14 NCAA Elite Eight

Hopefully, UT will start making strides to get where UCLA is this year. UCLA is a contender this year and are expected to make the FINAL FOUR.

I see two storied programs that have GONE, or are going through ups and downs..

Just a thought....

As my 10th grade English teacher, Ms. Amy Hamilton, would have scolded you,
it's that "have gone..."
Not that "have went..."

In contrast to UCLA, Tennessee basketball is afflicted with two big problems:
Rick Barnes and Holly Holy.

I agree completely with Holly, but you can't be serious about Coach Barnes. We have almost beaten 3 top 25 teams this year with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores. They play hard all the time. He will have us back to relevance before long. Holly needs to go!

I agree. I watched the UT men's team play twice this season. They're young but pretty good. Gave Wisconsin a bit of a scare.

Holly cant coach.
Rick can't recruit. (Or perhaps it's his assistants who can't aim higher than 3 stars, but there's got to be a reason that many other new coaches in the SEC are reeling in four- and five-star recruits while the UT staff is settling for 3-stars.)

Sometimes it isn't always about the stars, its about getting the players you can coach/ones that fit in your system. Teams like Gonzaga and Butler (on the Men's side) have found themselves in Final Fours and either title games against the likes of Duke and Kentucky without the same talent of recruits
