I was watching the film Cleopatra this evening, and was awe struck when Octavian is told of the death of Mark Anthony....It is so similar to the passing of Pat...Her friends, competitors, students, and game time adversaries, from all walks of life, have stopped to acknowledge the passing of this giant personality that prowled the arena floors across this great country, and yes, even the world.
In the film a centurion, rather lackadaisical, tells Octavian of the passing of Anthony...Octavian tears into the man to let him know his lips have spoke the name of a great man of Rome....
"For your life time, boast that you were honored to be able to speak his name, even in death......The dying of such a man must be shouted...Screamed!!!!. It must echo back from the corners of the universe....Anthony is dead! Mark Anthony of Rome, lives no more."
Pat has passed into legend now...Her fame and glory will only grow...She walked with us for 64 years, but her splendor will never diminish...
