Yesterday's win was encouraging, but one can still easily see this team's weakness. Generally, it is that outside of Harrison (inside) and Massengale (outside), we don't have any /dependable/ scorers--and in particular our outside shooting is suspect. As good as UT played in many ways yesterday, it took Massengale's four straight treys to keep us from having a disastrous day of outside shooting. Everyone else--Jones, Burdick, Middleton, Reynolds, Carter--was a combined 7 for 30. Ouch. And Massengale missed all of her shots in the first half. The good news is that we moved the ball well--and the shots we took, by and large, were open--the players just missed them.

We have neither a natural 2 nor a natural 3 on this team. Maybe Nared will become a natural 3 with time, as she has a pretty fluid game. Carter might become a decent 2 if she can gain some confidence. She's got athleticism and nice technique on her jumper--she just needs confidence. Point guard is her best position but we need her more at the 2.

It looks like Jones is playing the 2/3 wing role, but she's just not very good at it. She tries to take the ball to the basketball, and occasionally (usually against lesser opponents) she succeeds in scoring--but yesterday three or four times when she tried to drive to the basket, there was no open lane--and then it's put your hands over your eyes because there is no telling where the ball will end up (not in the basket). She had the same problem against texas. She was 1-7 yesterday.

The coaches should think seriously about POSTING Jones up when our opponent is playing man. She has size and she can jump, and she's got a decent touch. Coached up, she could be a handful DOWN LOW. Get her the ball in the low post and let her simply turn and shoot---she takes advantage of her size and hop and doesn't have to dribble and she doesn't have to think too much. She could help the offense more inside and down low than outside, IMO, where things go awry too often when she has the ball.

Yesterday, Stanford doubled Harrison. She smartly kicked the ball outside--but we tended to pass the ball around the perimeter. We need to give Harrison some inside scoring help. Graves pitched in with a couple of foul line jumpers and an inside basket or two. Now let's do the same with Jones. Bring Harrison out to the high post and post up Jones and Graves. In this way we are not just hoisting up long shots, which is not our forte.

Sure do miss Russell this season. Her and Izzy down low would be tough!

Ariel is a natural point. Dribble drive shoot or pass. A bunch of two's on this team.

Carter plays hard and Middleton has a lot of potential. More Tucker please...

Can't wait for Diamond!

Coach could do like Cal at UK and have an orange team and a white team. 5 in 5 out

GLV!!

Have you even been watching this team? Ariel doesn't take care of the ball, yesterday she had 3 TO's in 22 mins, the game before it was 5 TO's in 25 mins, and she has the worst A/TO ratio among the guards. We don't need her at PG.

And Holly has been doing primarily 5 in, 5 out for the last few games.

She did post Jones up several times when she was in there. She had her in Izzy's spot for a couple of minutes when she went out-that is until she got hurt.

Lol yes I watch. I'm talking about having two teams. All in at once and all our at once. Have you seen UK men this year?

I see Ariel is a turn over machine. Not sure if she can be coached up at this point. I like Middleton starting at point but oh well.

She is a very good shooter, but a natural point? Maybe not, she makes too many unforced errors.

Wow, a lot of glass half empty posts coming off the team's best win of the season.

Massengale shoots 50% from the field, hits some clutch three point shots, settles down the half court offense, and gave one of her best defensive efforts of the season, and its all "THREE!!!! turnovers, why she is no PG." Happy holidays folks but geez, lighten up and enjoy the moment or you may find coal in your stockings.

Offense. And a coach who can teach it.

This is when having the right assistant is important. Jeff Waltz was the guiding light behind the Terps national championship, not Brenda Frese. Hiring an assistant coach with an offensive vision would do wonders with all the talent on this team.

Yes need a commitment to offensive scheme and proper attention as is given to defense...... when tournament time comes ... need to be a complete team, not just a defensive team

Jones keep doing what your doing. Ignore this guy, by your senior year you should be a stud. Its a nice skillset being able to play from the 2 to 4, being helps us defensively.

And most her t.o be passing to players who weren't expecting the ball or traveling (which new move, not enough practice), they are seldom live ball t.o.

Obviously she's smart playing 3 position on the team, guard, wing and posts, she might not be doing them all well but at least Holly knows shes gonna give effort and that's the only way you get better.

The only thing we are missing is chemistry, consistent rotation, once we settle on a core 7-9 players we should be good.

I think in order to win against top competition this season we will have to hold them to 35 percent shooting and keep them off the foul line. It looks like 38 to 40 percent is what we'll be doing against top teams. So if we can force them to 35 percent and win the turnover and rebound game get up 8 to 10 more shots in a game we will still win. Defense will have to carry us this season we don't have any great scorers other than Massengale from the perimeter. Teams are recognizing this and taking Harrison out of the game by collapsing their defense. They are giving up the outside shot saying make it if you can. If we can bring the same effort that we did against Stanford we should finish in the top three in the SEC and get a 2 or 3 seed. Forcing 20 turnovers and out rebounding them by 14 gave us several more shot attempts. They only shot 25 percent so us shooting 38 resulted in a blowout. Our defense can force teams into empty possessions and if we can get up ten more shots per game it just enhances our chance to win.

And don't be fooled teams masks their weakness by making it a strength, how Stanford and WSU ran a sagging man cos they both didn't have the athletes to contend with us in the post.
