is SJ a big team?

St. Johns has a good basketball tradition (mens} , I lost some respect for 'em when they went PC and changed their name from red men to the red storm. Now the pressure is on the Washington Redskins to change their name. Disclaimer: In no way is this post intended to be political.

Let's hope the refs know the difference between a charge & a blocking foul. As always, these refs call the games too tight & end up calling little ticky tack fouls that are always questionable......:) amirite Convoluted?

why do UT women's fans always complain about the officiating--every game. If you look at the stats, we almost always shoot more free throws than our opponent.

How many free throws a team shoots NEVER says anything about the quality of officiating yet you continue to try to push this false analogy.

Explanation is simple. Have you noticed that teams which go into the paint more draw more fouls than their opponent?

the quality of the officiating, generally--but it does mean your team is GETTING CALLS, getting to the line, so stop the small-town whining EVERY GAME. In every game, Vols fans start up about the officiating--been happening for years.

It does NOT mean that. IF the Lady Vols play a team that gets called for 25 fouls, which we will assume is a lot, BUT that team ACTUALLY fouled the Lady Vols 50 times where 25 were NOT called, then the officiating is horrible.

And, the opposite is true. We could only foul a team 4 times but the referees could call us for 8. 8 is a low number, BUT if we actually only fouled them 4 times, then it's HORRIBLE officiating.

You cannot look at any stats and glean any information about the officiating. You have to actually watch the game and compare what actually happened on both side to what was actually called on both sides. The more calls blown, the worst the officiating. And, the more calls blown on plays that were not close, the worst the officiating, too. The more one sided the calls, the worst the officiating and make-up calls do not make officiating better.

Btw, UT Martin got hosed last night against North Carolina in North Carolina's gym. LOT of bad calls in the 2nd half all North Carolina's way.

1st post here, but I agree about UT Martin getting shafted with the refs yesterday. UTM was denied a win which they deserved.:bad:

The main thing I don't like about officiating is the touch fouls and the charge block call. The touch fouls just slow down the game. The block charge says you can't be moving must be stationary and yet players move into drivers to the basket and get the charge call. It is ridiculous.

The touch fouls are horrible. I want to see basketball games, not free throw contests. That stupid touch foul rule pretty much cost Wichita State the game vs. Kentucky.

The refs are really bad with the block/charge call. The need refs with faster eyes, because it seems they get about 50% of them wrong.

St. John's appear to love the flop.

Yep. Looks like they have been taught to undercut and flop. We could see some injuries if they continue to undercut.
The men had some problems with UMASS undercutting early in the game. Nasty way to play a game.

I am hoping that undercut was accidental. It's by design, I think, for Kentucky and Florida especially. It's a good way to get hurt.
