I wouldn't say that. Typically, hotels only take reservations on a small part of their available rooms this far in advance.
Six months ago, people were saying they couldn't get rooms in Atlanta for the CFA Kickoff game, that they were sold out. But today, you can book a room at more than a few places, even right downtown. It's a common tactic of hotel industries, especially in large cities that allows them to price to demand.
