The Luna chick from texas has pitched almost 700 pitches this weekend before bowing out in an embarrassing loss last night (lol btw). Youre correct, nowhere near the stress of an overhand pitching motion.

Who's on the mound

Great series win for the Lady Vols!!!

Just a FYI for the non softball followers....

there is no mound in softball and there is no balk like they have in baseball...

"the mound" is the "rubber".... pitching rubber and there is the circle... If the pitcher has the ball in the circle then the runner can not leave the bag until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand... so on a stolen base, you can't leave until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand.... if the defense gets the ball back to the circle... runners need to return to or continue on to the next base... no hesitation.

The "balk" is called an "Illegal pitch"... no leaping or replanting of feet by pitcher during the pitcher motion... the drag foot needs to maintain contact with ground... also, the pitcher needs to stay within the pitcher's lane when she pitches the ball home... must stay within or on the lines that come out from both sides of the rubber.

Admittedly I'm a softball neophyte, but this seems to be the most inconsistently enforced rule in college. I mean, that USF pitcher never got called in the regular season and then had, like, 6 illegal pitches in the super regional. Wierd.
