Thought many of you in this forum (and others) would be interested in this hopeful, newly released data coming from a research study. Hopefully, the awareness that Pat Summitt's diagnosis and the subsequent "We Back Pat" campaign will help channel more financial assistance to research and development like this one. Is this the cure? From the sound of the article, mice can rejoice. Maybe one day the dollars raised by the Volunteer faithful will be responsible for all of mankind rejoicing.

Cancer drug reverses Alzheimer's in mice: study - FRANCE 24

Mice treated with the drug, known as bexarotene, became rapidly smarter and the plaque in their brains that was causing their Alzheimer's started to disappear within hours, said the research in the journal Science.

Let's hope that the research on this drug becomes a viable source of good things to come for human use. Alzheimer's is such a terrible thing. Thanks for the link.

Somebody doesn't know anything about FDA. If they find the cure it will take 15 years to get it approved or move to Europe and get treatment in 3 years

Well isn't someone just a little ray of sunshine today. No one asked for a smart ass reply.

What's fortunate about this particular drug is that it has already gone through FDA trials for cancer. Many of the potential side effects have already been determined. If this drug continues to show promise for Alzheimer's, I have no doubt it'll be put on the fast track....let's just hope for now that it'll continue to show promise.

If you worded this differently, you wouldn't come off like such an a$$.

Awesome news , hopefully it translates to amyloid reduction in humans, unfortunately this is not always the case in mice studies, however it does provide a promising clue for future advances... I pray this works in human trials

Doesn't matter if it's approved for other disease states - it would still have to go through human clinical trials to get approved. Probably wouldn't take 15 years though like the jerkwad of this thread said. It's a good start.

Good post OP. I pray this turns out to be a cure for many. All life threatening diseases are tough to deal with but this one is the ultimate POS. It robs a person of all their dgnity as a human being in the end.

Not really a smart-ass reply. A lot of people have died over the years because the FDA dragged its feet on approving medicine for use in the United States.

Hopefully, this would get fast-tracked if it really helps, though. And people with Alzheimer's really don't have anything to lose.
