Are we bigots?

Not that the Yahoo blogger outright calls us or our opponents bigots, he suggests things would be whole a lot tougher on the "guy" if he played for the Lady Vols and Summit. Is he right?

Transgender George Washington player a fascinating, inspiring story - The Dagger - NCAAB - Yahoo! Sports

"Given GW's low-profile, Allums, hopefully, will avoid any backlash and bigotry from opposing teams' fans. Not that any demeaning signs or shouts would be tolerated in any arena, but the fact he plays on a team like this probably makes it a tad less stressful on the coaches and players as a whole. Imagine a Tennessee player doing this? The circumstances would likely be even tougher, given Pat Summitt and the Volunteers' place in women's college basketball."

This is a mod's worst nightmare.

No telling how many posts are going to get deleted due to being politically correct/incorrect and politically/ethically unsuitable for this particular forum.

I believe the writer is saying that it's going to be easier for a low profile team like GW to do this and not one like UT/UConn. Not saying UT fans are bigoted but that the exposure is much less than what it could be

First I would like to say f you Matt Norlander! Why does he choose Tennessee as the example? That is stereotyping at it's finest.

And secondly, I'm a little confused - is this a person who was born female and wants to be a male and hasn't began treatment? In which case biologically he/she is female, why would anyone have a problem with it...

Edit: Pj, just read your post - I didn't read the article like that, but that makes more since.

Seems like he's going to get a lot of exposure regardless, if yahoo is posting the story on its front page.

I believe that's the case. Looks like the issue comes in that they list her as a "male member of George Washington's women’s basketball team."

The fact is very few people are going to complain as long as he's average to mediocre and doesn't dominate the sport. But if he starts putting up triple doubles every night and doing 360 jams it'd be another story. That's why the best female sprinter in the world was given such a hard time for just looking male (prompting calls for her to get gender tested which subsequently revealed she had internal male reproductive organs if i remember correctly).

Only one of those 4 brings in money. That's why I contemplated the surgery. Until I realized the bump in dough wasn't worth the loss below. Bam!
