Danny Wilson coached at SP before he came to my old HS to coach.

They are going to the 'ship! MAYBE notice maybe in caps, they have a junior hb that can go D1. I don't know tho, their starting hb and wr, both seniors have some smaller colleges looking at them.

They are running all over everybody and the O-line averages about 6 ft 220. Won by 2, touchdowns that is, Friday night.

Wilson's at Cleveland High. He's been moderately successful there, winning 7 or 8 games a year, but not much playoff success.

Thats my boys! They have dominated all year. In the 14 games played, the "Mercy Rule" was invoked in 10 games. Nobody besides Tyner really played them close. I think Robert Robinson could be D1, the look and build of former SP and UT LB Eddie Moore, but the others although skills and speed lack the size for D1.

They are placed in their classification based on number of students at the school.

I believe the TSSAA re-classifies in 2009.

I remember when i was in high school, I went to East ridge high and we were the smallest 4-a school in the state. I think it really hurt us.

South Pittsburg has a rich and storied football tradition, which goes back to legend Bob Neyland through former great coach and high school principal L P (Phil) Beene). South Pitt’s present coach, Vic Grider, is the son of Don Grider, who was the hand-picked successor by Phil Beene(about 25-30 years ago). Don Grider passed away just a few months ago so this is a significant part of this years’ championship story. The rich football tradition at South Pittsburg is most memorable and if you will indulge me I’ll provide just a few “pieces” of this wonderful tradition. Coach & Principal Phil Beene is a legend at South Pittsburg and positively influenced the lives of many, many people(including myself!). He was one of the most principled men I’ve ever known and was, without doubt, the best motivator I’ve EVER known. He was inducted into the Tennessee Hall of Fame in 1987…and was one of the 11 “Flaming Soph’s” of Neyland’s 1928 squad…who led UT to a 9-0-1 record, including the 15-13 upset of Alabama. So, to this day the influence of Robert Neyland …through Phil Beene, Don Grider and Vic Grider (today’s head coach) is significant. Tennessee’s football tradition is alive and well in South Pittsburg! Congratulations to the players, Coach Grider(Vic & Don) & assistants and the South Pittsburg citizens, who provide such strong support! A legend season…again
