Happy Valley High School (Elizabethton, TN)
South Greene High School (Greeneville, TN)
Sullivan North High School (Kingsport, TN)
Just a heads-up for folks of the Tri-Cities area. Bold school above is what I want to talk about. The Director of Sullivan County schools is somewhat new(2nd year I believe). The previous Director Yubal Jenne left to go to another state to be Director of Schools.

Well, Jenne left the school system with a mess to deal with. Parents of Sullivan North students were fit to be tied with his proposals & ideas for Sullivan North High School. However, the budget for the county was way over & Jenne started the talk of closing and/or moving students around to other schools.

Jenne left in 2015 & there was a vote a few months before left as to what to do with Sullivan North High School which was built in 1981 & my alma mater too by the way. I graduated there in 1989. The final vote was to allow North to stay open through 2018 & then it would be sold to nearby Kingsport City Schools & then the City would turn it into a feeder Middle School for Dobyns-Bennett High School.

In cause you don't know North is a pretty big school. When I graduated there in 1989 the total number of students was over 1,700. It's now dropped down to under 600 students which is why they're now class 2A. We were a class 5A school back when I went there. This just shows the decline in the number of students attending there thru the years.

A couple of years ago North was going to have what was expected to be their best football team ever at the school. However, after the news of the school closing 11 starters left the team & went to other schools.

North ended up only winning 1 game that season but could have possibly made it all the way to the state title game in 2A. They would have been loaded that year with an elite QB & 4 college level RB's. They all 5 left plus 6 other young men.

So, as far I know there has been no change to this proposal & vote to sale the school after the 2018 school year. Kingsport City Schools have already written off on this saying they're buying the school for usage of their own. The kids going to North after 2018 will be moved to other schools in the county but there will be no more Sullivan North High School.

I don't know what the Kingsport City Schools plan are to do about the name of the school but I assume it will be changed because it's going to be their main feeder school to Dobyns-Bennett High School. DB is a class 6A school.

They anticipate over 1,000 students will attend North starting in 2019. It could go as high as 1,200 students as well. The school is big enough to hold up to 1,800-1,900 students.

I just find it a real shame to see this school close. Not really close but turn into a City School & force students to go to other county schools. They say that the students will be split between 3 county schools in Sullivan South High School, Sullivan Central High School, & Sullivan East High School.

That would be about 200 students going to each of these 3 county schools. Just saddens me to see this happen because mainly it being my alma mater. Glad it's not being closed & destroyed though because the school is still in such good condition. Thanks!

That is a horrible story.

My alma mater released their 2017 schedule today, so it looks like the schedules for most schools should be finalized over the next couple months.

State Title Game for North? C'Mon man...

4 College-Caliber RB's?

I just don't see it. Maybe Quarterfinals, but even when Rowe was QB, getting past Betsy. Or in 2A those Hampton teams would've been hard. And I played against those really good teams. I also played against Betsy/Greeneville and others. Just wasn't the same.

Sell the school and get it off the books. County is shrinking, city in annexing. Hate it for Bloomingdale, but it's part of the deal. Hopefully they don't just throw kids around and knock all the schools up to 5A.

Yes, 4 smaller level type RB's & the same for the QB in Rowe. All 5 of those players I believe are playing at smaller schools right now. Not major D1 backs buddy I never said that anyhow. Betsy wasn't in their conference or classification for that year. North had already moved down a classification.

Betsy was at 3A then while North had dropped down to 2A. They went even lower to 1A for a couple of years & now for the next 2 years until they sale & Kingsport City gets it they're back to 2A.

You would get blasted by the way if you were on a local forum for the community supports for North saying it's no big deal & just sale the school to get it off the books. People would be after you like some go after me on here. :p:wink:
