It seems strange that HS football starts in mid August. They started here in MO yesterday too.

Elizabethton gonna whip Science Hill next week...Go Vols!!!

I think they have a chance to beat Science Hill this year. It's going to be a good game. Elizabethton is loaded this season but we have to remember Science Hill is a 6A school while the Cyclones are 3A.

We started at the very end of August when I played.

Me too back in the late 80's. We didn't start to school until then either. Usually our first game was the first week of school.

Our first game my senior year(Copper Basin) was Sept 4, 1992 against Fannin County, GA Rebels. We were a small single A school(enrollment 330 8th-12th) playing our arch rival from just across the state line. Fannin was a Ga AA-AAA school with an enrollment of almost 1,000 students. Fannin had beaten us the year before 20-0 but we managed to pull out a victory my senior year 13-9. Ahh, good memories!

Guys, I edited the 1st post to place the actual games schedule. That keeps people from having to go to another site to view them. Thanks!

Both were members of the old "Big 7" Conference (Elizabethton, Science Hill, D-B, Bristol, Greeneville, Morristown, Erwin) back in the 50's. I graduated back in 1966. Our QB in 1962 was Johnny Mills-ex WR at UT. Spurrier was a Senoir at JC in 1962-lettered in 4 sports(baseball, basketball, track, football).

I played at Sullivan North when it was called the Big 10 back in the late 80's. Played all 3 main sports but basketball ended up providing me a scholarship to Walters State in 1989.

I really think Elizabethton does have a chance to beat Science Hill tonight but they will have to play a near perfect game. They certainly have the best chance they've had in years or possibly ever. I still say the Toppers will pull it out by a touchdown 35-28.

Weather? Was it for lightning? If not then that doesn't make any sense at all. Even with lightning they normally wait it out to resume games.

They waited 2 hrs and finally called it for lightning. Madison had the ball and was driving with 10 min to go when the delay started.

It was around 11pm

They could have waited to try & get the game in by midnight. I don't know the specific rules but I think the officials are supposed to try & get the games in/finished by midnight.

If they had 10 minutes left in the game & the lightning had stopped then they should have tried to finish the game. However, if the lightning was still going on around 11 PM then they probably made the right decision.

With it being a non-regional game it has no bearing on either teams seasons just sucks for MA to make the trip up from AL and not have the opportunity to finish. If roles had been reversed would the outcome have been the same? Would be interesting to see.

Let me one up you. Lipscomb Academy played at Page. About then end of the 1st qtr the game was paused due to lightning in the area. Approx an hour later the game was called. No make up scheduled. It ended in a 7-7 tie. It wasnt a district game so there want the urgency to make it make it up but waiting to see how it affects standings. So far it shows as if the game didnt play at all.

What time was this game called? Is this Central time zone area? For them to suspend the game in the 1st quarter & not allow more time to try & get the game in sounds really crazy to me. Had it stopped lightning when the game was caled?

yes, central time. Kick off at 7:00p and 1st qtr had ended when refs suspend the game. We're all shuffled into one of their gyms to wait it out. At about 8:15 they come tell us the game is cancelled and no make up. I'm back on the road by 8:30. In their defense, radar showed another band of storms right behind the one that caused the delay and it did lightening and rain all the way home.

I hate it for the boys. Here it is this Friday, week 3, and they enter it only playing 1 qtr of football (had a bye the first week).
