All of it, love me some winter Olympics.

Side note:

In regards to the games. I watched a history channel special last night on the technical aspect of designing and building the challenges. Look for world records to fall left and right on the bobsled course. Highly recommend watching it to any one watching the games, it's good stuff.

Sad news.

Georgian luger killed in training | Vancouver 2010 News | Vancouver 2010 | Sports | Toronto Sun

Quote:
The training mishap that killed an Olympic luger Friday was reportedly his second crash in as many days at the dangerously-fast Whistler sliding centre.

Amid mounting safety concerns over the speed lugers have been reacing on the track — there have been more than a dozen crashes during training this week — Nodar Kumaritashvili, a 21-year-old from Georgia, died after flipping off his sled and into a metal pole.

I knew that that thing was dangerous. I watched as they designed and built it for speed. it is no loner just cut out of the mountain in dirt and stone. It was built in stages and deliver to the sight. Where concrete was sprayed on and smoothed and 1,000,000 #'s of ammonium refrigerate piping was laid to keep two inches of ice super cold. While the course is built with a 500 ft. elevation drop over it's length.

The video of that crash is absolutely insane. It's obviously an extremely dangerous sport and it's sad to see stuff like this happen. What a sad way to kick off the games.

Hey I also like curling. I saw it during 2006 and for some reason I couldn't turn the channel when it was on. It was fascinating to me.

I just saw that poor guy's fatal crash on the luge. My lord, who designed that track? Steel poles - really? You'd think they'd have something built into the design for such situations as that. Maybe I'm not educated enough on luge racing but you'd think they'd have netting or SOMETHING to catch those guys/girls in case something like that happened. A padded pole wouldn't have saved him either but there surely is something in the design that could have been done differently to keep a situation like that from happening.

I guess we just need to be thinking of this guy's family now and keeping them in our thoughts. It's just a bad situation.
