Manager Phil Garner is a Bearden High graduate. In fact, Bearden's baseball field is named for him. I was in school at Bearden when they made the annoucement - it was right after his Pirates won the World Series over the Baltimore Orioles in 1979.
Burke (a Vol baseballer) was spectacular at the end of the year and into the post-season.
While Rick Honeycutt wasn't part of the team - he was an outstanding Vol and contributor to Astros history.
