| 2009 U.S. Open Championships Thread Fed is the favorite here, obviously, but this is a strong field. Roddick, Murray, Nadal, Del Potro, Querrey, et al can all make a run at it. Helluva good way to pass the time waiting for our Vols first kickoff, in my opinion. |

| Venus seriously struggling against Dushevina. Dushevina is strikingly good looking, btw.

| My sentimental favorite on the men's side, Chase Buchanan, trying to hang in there against Jo-Willie after losing the first at love. He reminds me a bit of Fabrice Santoro - a lot of heart in a small package. |

| Oh well, not a good result for Buchanan.
In other news, Safina just dropped the first set to Olivia Rogowska.

| Safina is a total headcase. She might be worse off mentally than Marat...

| Gotta agree, there, beergood. She is funny and engaging in person when she wants to be, and bat sh** insane at moments when she's on the court. |

| I asked Greg Garber from ESPN a question during the live chat today about Jesse Witten. Here's the q and a: Me: Jesse Witten? Really? From the set score, he looks like he lit it up. Did you get a chance to see him play? Greg Garber: Russ: There were whispers that Andreev was injured, but you can't take anything away from Witten. I wrote a story on Witten that should be up within the hour. Today he made more money (31K) than he's made all year. Told me he seriously considered quitting earlier this year when he was playing $10K Futures events.
Good for Jesse. I'm glad for him. He's got Maximo Gonzalez next, who's record thus far this year is 10-11. It would be nice if he could take that one, as well. |

| is it okay if we call him "Hittin'" Jesse Witten?
Also, Sharapova needs to play with a shock collar on. The best part about her matches is you can close your eyes and pretend you are stabbing her...lulz...
