The Toronto Argonauts shored up its defence Thursday by inking defensive end Jonathan Brown to a contract extension.

The American-born Brown joined the club last year and had a strong 2004 campaign, finishing second on the team in sacks with eight. He also played a major role in Toronto's 27-19 Grey Cup win over the B.C. Lions by recording five tackles.

"I'm really glad to be back with the 'family' and keep everyone together," Brown said in a statement. "I didn't want to go anywhere else and now we have a chance to win back-to-back championships."

Brown is the latest member of last year's championship team to commit his future to the Argos. Thus far in the off-season, Toronto re-signed free-agent quarterback Damon Allen, linebacker Kevin Eiben, cornerback Adrion Smith and offensive linemen John Feugill.
