| I expected China to produce an incredible opening ceremony given their art-heavy culture, but that still blew me away.
I thought that after the Spanish did that archer-lights-the-torch bit in Barcelona everybody else would just give up trying to top it and fall back on bells & whistles. Tonight, China didn't just top it, they screwed everybody else who's even contemplating bidding on future Summer Games. About the only folks with a shot are Rio- and that's assuming they'll stoop to FX-ing up their giant Jesus.

| the 2010 Winter Games in London are next. I bet their Olympic Committee members were sitting there with "WTF do we do now??!!" expressions.

| Last night was cool. I liked how they had the athletes walk through paint (?) and make that big piece of art.
I would also like to thank NBC/Verizon for my 4 HD channels of Olympics. Not sure I will miss anything now |

I missed a good portion of the opening due to a power outage. I saw highlights on what I missed. I hope the Olympic channels have a replay.

| Watching that last night made me think of the book The Devil and the White City. If anyone else has read it you might know what I am saying. |

| The US men's volleyball team is too soft. They're getting worked by Latvia.
Where in the hell are Goose and Maverick when you need 'em? We need some denim and dogtags out there representing the stars and stripes. |
