Best golf course you have played

Late to the game on this one, but the 5 best I've played:

1. The Old Course at St. Andrews (got on at 6:30 in the morning about 2 weeks before Christmas while studying abroad - a magical experience).
2. Pinehurst #2 - kicked my butt.
3. Grandfather CC - Linville, NC. Best scenery of any course I've played. Gorgeous.
4. Harbour Town - not the best manicured course on HHI, but it's got great history.
5. Haig Point - Daufuskie Island, SC. Beautiful.

I saw GAVol mention East Lake - that's tops on my list. Love the whole concept of that course, combining history with doing something good for the area. Drove by it last time I was in Atlanta, and it looked like it was in amazing shape.

Did you play the calibogue holes @ Haig Pt.? No room for error there.

Ailsa at Turnberry was a complete disaster when I was there. Old Course is the Old Course, but didn't do it for me. Royal Dornoch was my favorite of the Scottish variety. Old Head was far and away the best course I played while over there.

Kapalua - Plantation Course is the place to play there. Take some coin though it is about $300 to play. Play it in the morning or the wind will eat your ball.
The Kaanapoli courses are less expensive but do not have the views of Kapalua.

I'm pretty stoked about her booking these destination weddings...but i'm getting tired of airports.
