| Don't feel like actually going through all this thread but I am actually a soccer fan. For non-soccer fans, if you still can't get caught up in the World Cup you have no soul. |

I watched every single match I possibly could without failing out of grad school. I was just beginning to waver and think maybe soccer isn't so bad during the final and then Zidane (sp?) headbutts a guy in the stomach and France loses. I enjoy seeing France lose, but that was the stupidest move I've ever seen in sports, regardless of what may or may not have been said about dear old mommy. Any wavering went out the window right there.
That said the athleticism and conditioning of soccer players is undeniable. They belong in the upper echelon of athletes just like football, basketball, baseball, cricket and tennis players. |

| you can't base it all on one stupid play from one Frenchman.
and honestly, i don't enjoy international play (World Cup, Euro 2008, Olympics) as much league play (UEFA Cup, EPL) |

This was the most energy I had ever put forth into trying to get into it and for it to end like that was a sign for me. Nothing ever blew me away and the headbutt just magnified everything else that doesn't interest me.
Like i say though, I'm not knocking it. It's just not my cup of tea. Some don't like tennis or baseball and I'm ok with that. I just can't do soccer. |

There just seems to be more pride playing for the national team. Euro Cup and Champions League are pretty even in my opinion.

Unfortunately Zidane just had the whole world as his audience. I wouldn't give up on soccer just b/c of that. |

| Roger Clemens drilling Mike Piazza in the head was far more classless than Zidane.
Pedro Martinez clocking Don Zimmer was pretty shameful as well.
Albert Haynesworth stomping on the unprotected head of Andre Gurode.

Albert Haynesworth stomping on the unprotected head of Andre Gurode. | bad events, but with Zidane's headbutt being on that kind of stage, it is still the stupidest thing I have ever witnessed. |

Albert Haynesworth stomping on the unprotected head of Andre Gurode. | Don Zimmer had no business getting in Pedro's face to begin with...

| Doesn't change the fact that he is way too old to be decked by a major leaguer.
