The Paintball Thread

This thread is for all things paintball. Share your questions/info/stories here.

I've been on a 4 year hiatus from the sport. I finally played last weekend and I'm addicted all over again I used to play woodsball every Sunday back in college- those were some really good times.

Who else enjoys paintball?

I would have wanted to play, don't get me wrong.

But about 6 months ago I was watching ESPN and the National Paintball Finals came on. I found it very disconcerting that this was considered an organized sport, that it was being nationally boradcast, and that evidently people watch it.

Its basically grown men playing "Army," right? And the only difference between it and what I did when I was 7 is that now we have proof that "I got you! I got you! You're dead!"

Like I say, looks like fun. But let's not get carried away.

Is there a hidden message...or perhaps some irony that they would show both of these things on the same network?

At least the LPGA offers occassional glimpses of the likes of Natalie Gulbis, Paula Creamer, and Morgan Prssel.

The ironic thing about what you are saying is the majority of the paintball community is trying to distance themselves and the sport from it's "combat" roots.

They wear crazy looking jerseys, call their guns "markers", and run around on brightly colored fields with Nascar-like sponsorship everywhere.

I'm one of the few that disagrees with this direction. I'm against disguising the sport from what it really is: simulated combat. I'm all for gearing up in camo, hitting the South GA trails, and stalking my buds for a few hours.

If you've ever wondered what it is like, by all means, give it a go! The adrenaline spike you get from paintballs flying past your head at 300 feet per second is addictive.

I've not done it and it sounds like fun, but not sure if "adrenalin spike" is the phrase I'd use to describe that sensation. I think something more like, oh, I don't know, how about "paralyzingly terrifying" -- might be more appropo.
