| LSU won the toss and elected to kick.....the ref told Ohio's team captain "LSU elects to defer" so the Ohio team captain said "we will receive".....so the ref does a double take and then asks LSU what end of the field they wanted!!!
LSU won the coin toss, elected to kick, and got to choose endzones!!!

| It sounds like the ref screwed up when he said they would defer when they actually said they would kick. But, I didn't see it myself and am questioning whether LSU would choose "kick" and not "defer." It seems odd that LSU would want to kickoff for both halves. | |

OSU then has the option of choosing to kick/receive and LSU the option of choosing which side they'll defend.
Actually if they'd wanted to I think OSU has the option to pick a side to play at and then LSU the option to kick/receive. You don't get to choose both kick/receive and which side.
I'm not sure why you're faulting the ref, nothing was done incorrectly.   | |

| I didn't pay attention to the coin toss, but I would think if LSU won the toss and chose to defer, that means 'to the 2nd half'. Obviously, if they chose to receive the ball in the 2nd half, they would be kicking it away in the 1st; meaning... Ohio STATE should have been choosing endzones, not the already determined fact that they would receive. | |
