Les Miles on Dan Patrick Show this a.m.

Caught Dan Patrick's radio interview with Miles this morning. Quite interesting and I hope it becomes available elsewhere.

A couple of things.

First, Miles said that the new contract he just signed with LSU continues to have in it a buy-out provision for one school. Michigan.

Second, when Patrick asked him why he would hold out hope of going to coach there, Miles pointed out to him that he got married while at Michigan, had his first child at Michigan, and that he's a Michigan alumn. It was crystal clear that Miles has a definite heart-felt desire to coach there.

But, third, when asked why it didn't happen this time around, Miles said that loyalty is a "personal choice," and that he was loyal to Michigan and his roots there, but loved where he was.

The bottom line: it is clear that someone(s) at Michigan were the stumbling block to a deal this time around. Seemed obvious to me that Miles was basically confirming the rumors that Carr put the kibosh on a deal and that Miles is just going to wait him out.

Man, I tell you what. If LSU wins the NT but the next coach at Michigan isn't all that and a bag of chips, there are going to be some pretty angry fans at UM, what with Carr having embarrassed them in the Ap State loss, not beating tOSU, and then evidently being the sticking point on hiring Miles.

I may be the only one on this board that likes Les Miles.

Actually, I have a bit of a new found respect for him after that interview. Not saying I like the guy, but when he talked about why he still liked Michigan, it was personal and sincere and you could tell.

Still think Dan Patrick is as entertaining as watching dried paint dry some more.

I completely agree on all points.

My buddy told me more than a month ago that Miles would not go to Michigan because he would be back under Carr... and Carr was the reason he left Michigan in the first place.

Gotta be real crappy to be a Michigan fan right now.

Oh, the irony of getting rid of Lloyd Carr, yet not really getting rid of him at the same time.

Here's what I heard on the Miles deal....His agent, tried to get in contact with Bill Martin (Mich AD) on Friday to tell him that LSU is pushing hard to close a deal and to see what UM's counter was....Bill Martin however could not be reached...why you ask??? Because he was on a sailing trip in the Atlantic somewhere....The agent came back and told Les to take the deal with LSU....When Martin was finally reached it was way to late....Apparently Bill Martin is outraged at this to because he thought he had Miles in his back-pocket, in fact the reason for the sailing trip was the success of hiring him in the first place....Guess he needs to invest in a sat. phone...

exactly. had Miles lost the SECCG and not vaulted to the NCG, he would be now inked as the next coach at UM. How could a guy take a different job after being announced as NCG participant? Doesn't work.

Another factor for his desire to end up at Michigan is he has elderly family in Ohio... not sure if it's on his or his wifes side... but the family tie is strong for him.

I love Les Miles.

For all his decision making shortcomings he is a man. He's brash, outspoken, and arrogant and you know what it shows through his football team.

I don't know because I didn't play football at Oklahoma State or LSU but I suspect the man could motivate someone to run through a brick wall.

Some call him stupid because how he comes off in half time interviews but I'd much rather have a coach looking dumb saying, "We have a damn strong football team" or screaming after halftime about how his team is, "Working their asses off" rather than a half hearted "Working like heck" after the first half.

Remember 50% of the taste is the presentation. What does that mean? I have no idea, but it sounded good in my head.
