[b] as last year proved that a huge team budget loaded with stars wont always get ya a ring, id say we're in for a period of cinderella teams. the braves have had their dynasty come n go, the mighty yankees arent mighty anymore, the bean town bombers have slayed their monkey on their back. Throw in the steroids, and huge egos (half of sportcenters lead stories since Christmas) and you can see how a team with no stars and some chemistry this could be their year. Im thinkin.....cubs | I was slightly baffled when you said that the Braves and Yankees runs were over with . . . then you went all the way into the Twilight Zone and picked the Cubs.
The Yankees and Braves are in the playoffs every year and in the offseason they added Randy Johnson and Tim Hudson respectively. Not to mention that the Braves are putting Smoltz back in the rotation. I'm sure there will be some upstart teams, but come playoff time it'll be the same suspects. |

| | VN Night Watch | I'll root for the Cubs to win their division... Doubt it will happen, though.

[b] I got to go to Wrigley Field right after I graduated from college. It is the neatest sports venue I've ever been to. And to top it all off, it was the year before Harry Caray died, so I got to hear him sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame in the 7th inning.
| I saw the Cubs beat the Braves at Wrigley a couple years ago. :D That was amazing.

Wasn't Wrigley a lot more compact looking to you in person than you see on TV? I know they call it the "Friendly Confines", but I swear that ivy and the buildings across the street make the wall look like it's no more than 300 ft from home plate. |

| | VN Night Watch | Yeah... I don't really have that much to compare it to. I've seen the Mariners in both King Dome and Safeco. Both seem massive. I've also been to Fenway, but it was in the offseason.

| You guys had better enjoy Wrigley while you can because it would not surprise me if, sometime soon, they build another sterile, seats-more-people-without-any-aura-at-all stadium for the Cubs.
One of the neatest experiences I've had was to take my youngest son to Fenway, the Hall of Fame, and Detroit's old stadium, all in the same trip.
The graffiti on the stall doors in the restrooms was worth the trip. Dates ranged way, way, way back. It made cold chills run up my arms.
Ah, the good olde days of tradition in professional sports, especially baseball, motherhood, and apple pie (al a mode, of course!) |
