| SEC fines Kentucky $50,000 LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- The Southeastern Conference fined Kentucky $50,000 Monday for failing to prevent fans from rushing the field after the Wildcats' triple-overtime victory over top-ranked LSU.
It was the third violation, dating to last year for Kentucky, which was fined $5,000 for the celebration after a win last year against Georgia and $25,000 earlier this year after a victory over Louisville. | Worth every penny.
Some of the violators, as I hear, were passing the hat on the way out the stadium.

Afterall, they have to make payroll. It´s more expensive when you have 85 players on "scholarship."

| I think that is ridiculous, SEC needs to get rid of that rule. What is wrong with a little celebration, I mean how often do you see Kentucky beating a number 1 team? Regardless of it being KY or any other team, they should be allowed to celebrate anywhere after a big game. |

| the rule is there because a female UGA student was nearly trampled to death when fans stormed the field after UGA beat UT for the first time in nearly a decade. (maybe not entirely because of that incident, but I think it precipitated the fining process.)
I think it's a good rule from a fan and player safety standpoint.
As long as nobody got hurt at UK, I'd say it's money well spent.

| I like the rule it's good to have it protects everyone involved who can forget when I think Mizzou beat Nebraska a few years back and the Nebraska football player sucker punched a Mizzou fan...the fan was knocked out cold it was a bad incident...but I can tell ya the AD department at UK is not happy having to pay all these fines thats money they were not ready to spend

As long as nobody got hurt at UK, I'd say it's money well spent. | If you can't run with the crowd then you shouldn't be running with the crowd or around them! I mean if you don't want to risk getting injured, then don't put yourself in those situations. It's only a few instances with several thousands of fans, so what. |

It's only a few instances with several thousands of fans, so what. | how about one young female trying to get out of the way of an onrushing mass of fans? As a parent, I'd hate to think that my kid could be injured or killed just for attending a sporting event. I'd also hate to think that some other parent could care less that my kid got hurt but the team won.
I'm all for celebrating a major victory and I don't have a real problem with fans rushing the field afterwards. What I do have a problem with is people thinking they're entitled to celebrate in any way they see fit and not caring if someone gets hurt in the process.
