| Anyone else think that the falcons will be the surpise team of the year? All the makings of a surprise year. . . noted star who has really never accomplished anything and is generally dislikely by teamates is gone for the year (i'm assuming) and is replaced by formally underachieving backup veteran QB. Team then rallies around said backup. I'm picking Joey as a late round pick in my fantasy draft.
edit: whoops i guess i should have put this in the nfl forum

| If Joey HArrington is the QB, I do not think they will make he playoffs, but it is the NFC and they could get the wild card, the Saints will win the SOuth. |

| Vick isn't/wasn't a good QB. He's probably one of America's 10 best pure athletes, but a bad QB and not a consistent winner or leader. This may be a blessing for the Falcons. I'm not saying Joey Heisman is going to lead them to the promised land or anything, but its not like its downgrade. |

The Falcons will be terrible this year.
They play Carolina, the Bucs, and the Saints twice each. The Jaguars and 49ers will be tough. The Colts will destroy them. The Giants, Rams, and Seahawks are all better. They might be able to hang with the Vikings. |

| Falcons fan here. I expect the Falcons to be surprisingly good this year, but by surprisingly good I mean that I think they might win five games. This year is going to be pretty ugly.
It's been sad to watch Vick unravel. He was pretty good under Dan Reeves, and at times looked like he had a chance to become spectacular, but in hindsight it was obviously the worst possible choice to put him in a West Coast offense -- Vick is just a horrible mismatch in a precision passing game. And during the Mora years, when he had to deal with on-the-field adversity and failure for probably the first time in his life....well, let's just say that adversity didn't reveal any particular character or leadership skills in his case. And that's just on the field.
I was interested to see what Petrino would have done with Vick, especially since Vick is supposedly a big reason why he was interested in the Atlanta job to begin with. It's not going to be the same offense with Harrington running it, obviously. But it's a moot point now -- not only do I think it's unlikely that Vick will ever play another down for Atlanta, but since it would be almost impossible to root for the guy at this point, I'm fine with that. It's time to turn the page and look for the next guy. |

Dude, totally! It would be awesome to see a Pac 10 alum sweep in and surprise everyone as the comeback player of the year. I think Joey could have a big year based on his continual underachievement and desire to prove his potential, is much more than just potential. One could easily argue he would have done much better last year in Miami had he had even a shadow of an offense to support him. What a bad situation to be put in. On the flipside of this whole saga I was pleased to see the commissioners press conference today. He stepped in like the federal government would in a dispute with a politician. This was not going to be handled by the local cops (Blank) no, this was serious enough for the president (Goodell) to get involved. If Blank had suspended him the case would have gone to arbitration, and Vick would have been on the field in another week. I am however, somewhat miffed by the comments from Blank. While he was prepared to institute the maximum four game penalty, he almost seemed to somehow empathize with Vick. Wow! That was unexpected! In any event I admire Blank, and I wont hold this against the poor guy. He’s been through enough, what with the trauma of this whole thing. Nice to hear he still has that little NY twang in his voice. Classy guy, screwed by a not so classy guy.

As for Goodell's involvement, anytime a superstar like Vick gets in trouble he's going to investigate. He even looked into the troubles of much lesser known players like Pac-Man Jones and Chris Henry. |

Classy guy, screwed by a not so classy guy. | I can't tell if this gigantic wall of text is just incoherent, or whether it just seems so because you have no idea how to use paragraph breaks or punctuation properly. So this is what your prose likes when you attempt to communicate withoout smilies, huh?
I'll give you credit for one positive thing, Teddy: you're the destroyer of stereotypes. Cal-Berkeley is supposed to be a really good school, while the whole state of Tennessee is supposed to be full of nothing but illiterate hicks. You're the proof that none of that matters. Keep fighting the prejudice, Teddy. Keep fighting. |

Good point about Joey and never having become really good in the pro’s. Often times when I have followed a player as closely as I did him in college, I can blur their actions there with their pro playing time. It always comes up with Packers fans when I tell them what I think of Favre. Thankfully with Marshawn that wont be an issue as the Buffalo press and coaches can’t get enough of the fine young man and he is destined to greatness.
Yeah, this has got to be the most famous player by far to be hit with a major scandal/charges and public furor of this magnitude, in like a million years. Ray Lewis isn't as big as Vick, and then again he was only charged for manslaughter or something. Which he beat. This case has absolutely captured the public’s anger with a sense of betrayal and utter indignation. It will make a great book or movie someday. It makes the NBA case take a complete back seat. It’s the number one issue on sports talk radio, tv, and even on some primetime news! As Dick Vitalle would say, “it's unbelievable baby!"
I have to admit I have been sucked right in! DOWN WITH VICK!
