British Open

Have I missed the British Open thread somewhere or is this just another sign that football is approaching?

Garcia is at the top of the leaderboard at -6. Daily was -5 at one point today and finished at +3 (I think).

I think the start time threw everybody off. I was listening to the coverage on XM when Daly made his first double bogey. He missed an 18 inch putt and in the span of 3 holes went from -5 to +1.

Tiger made a birdie putt from about 80 feet on 16 I think.

So what kind of numbers are we talking to win this week? It is probably weather dependent. I don't mind low scores in majors, but I prefer that they not get too far into double digits below par.

with the East wind coming off the sea, the scores won't be too low, but if that dies down then they could get pretty low.

course is much more benign this time around. balls were backing up all over the place and stopping in the fairways on one hop. looked like a stateside even for a while, with a few berns thrown in for good measure. Kinda like playing a lookalike course in Dallas somewhere.

To me it always looks like gloomy golf on a bad course.

I've played a couple of the courses and most of my comments were that they'd be $20 weekend round munis. Turnberry was actually bad.

St. Andrews, if not the home of golf, would be a decent golf course at best.

I know what you're saying, but it's my favorite course. It's just got that thing about it that I like.
