it may just be a product of the way i was raised, but i don't know. i regularly drive by one of the nicer courses in Knoxville, Gettysview. big homes and big dollar memberships and i see more and more people dressed like slobs on the course. today a guy was wearing a tie-dyed shirt and i've seen others in t-shirts and/or jorts.

when i was a kid i stayed with my buddies during the summer days, and their mom would always take us to golf lessons (at Tellico Village). she wouldn't let any of us leave the house without a collared shirt on. if we were spending the day out there to swim and decided we wanted to hit balls, we weren't going anywhere near the course without a collared shirt, which was often the case. in fact, eventually it got to the point where i just left my shirt over there so i wouldn't forget.

i'm not saying you have to look like a pro when you play, but i can't stand the people who don't even take the time to look decent when they play.

Odd because you would think if its a nicer course they would require collared shirts. At least thats the way I think it is here around Nashville.

My favorite of all time is a crappy golf course outside of town here that has the rules posted on a board by the first tee . . . one of which is "Shirts must be worn on holes #1, #9, #10 and #18."

i mean if you head out to a local muni course, you should expect that kind of thing. but not at a private club.

I agree with you...
Denim and t-shirts have no place on a golf course

It was delivered today, so when I got home I went out and hit about 6 balls off the tee box, and killed 'em...

I've finally started playing a little, and the game seems to be coming around a bit. We had a night golf event recently, and it was one of the most fun occasions I've had on the course. I only had to invoke the "groom gets a throw" rule twice and only occasionally teed it up in the fairway.

For anybody that hasn't played in the dark, you really should give it a try.

Strangely enough, it is almost impossible to lose them at night.

There has been a slight change to the honeymoon plans; we won't be playing Princeville. I will be playing the Plantation at Kapalua, though, as well as another very nice course on Maui and two on the Big Island.

went the the Knoxville Open today. it was my first time ever at a professional golf event. we got there about 5 minutes before Bob May was scheduled to go out. we followed his group for about 3 holes. i went back to the clubhouse to grab lunch and check out players on the range, per BPV's advice. i then caught back up with my group to watch May's group finish 9 and then followed them through 16.

they were doing dollar beers at the par 3 16th for every birdie. the deal was every birdie resulted in dollar beers for the next half hour. they decided today to reset the clock after every birdie. we sat there through the last group. they had the pin in an INCREDIBLY generous location today. there wasn't a threesome who didn't make at least one bird.

finished the day out watching the local club pro (also a family friend) finish his round. he missed the cut.
