South Carolina may still lose Spurrier...

I know this belongs in the Sports Forum, but I want to make sure everyone sees it. As a native Johnson Citian (but Daniel Boone graduate), I think this would be a great hire

That's awesome. I don't think Science Hill could buyout Spurrier's contract tho.

Send a message via Yahoo to AlabamaVolunteer
he joked around a couple of weeks ago in an interview that his high school back home was his next coaching move.

I don't know man.. Between the Rich family and Matt Czuchry i think this could go down... Johnson City would become bigger than knoxvegas and chattanooga combined as kids convinced their parents to move there so they could play for SOS

I'll take your word for the amount of cash they have. I moved away from East TN area to Hawaii 11 years ago (Volunteer grad '89), been back twice for a week each, so I'm out of touch with the area for the most part.

I just went back a month or so ago, and was quite surprised at how much the area has expanded.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but...

I could really see this happening.

I know Steve likes the challenge of winning the SEC at S. Carolina, but he wants to win the title for himself, not for South Carolina...he has no ties to the university or to the state. He just wants the satisfaction of doing what others couldn't do.

Well it's never been done at Science Hill either, and I'm sure he feels a responsibility to his alma mater...While the championship in Johnson City would be on a much smaller scale compared to an SEC title, it'd be more attainable and it would mean more to him.

Steve's also in his 60's...and he's getting to an age where I'm sure he'd love to settle down a little bit. The Science Hill job would satisfy his competitive nature, but it'd be over at the end of the season and he could play golf. At South Carolina, when the season ends, recruiting kicks in...it's a year-round job. And it's not an easy job recruiting kids to Columbia.

I hope he doesn't move back to this surrounding area, I don't think this area is big enough for both our egos..

I thought it was a pretty funny little piece in the paper.

Ron Morris is The State Paper's version of John Adams at the Knoxville Sentinel.
