| | VN GURU | Notre Dame doesnt deserve a BCS Bid Liked this article: SI.com - Writers - Cory McCartney's All-Out Blitz: Irish undeserving of BCS; OU's surprise - Monday November 27, 2006 9:19AM Quote: |
The Luck Of The Irish Two losses against BCS-bound opponents by 26 (Michigan) and 20 points (USC), yet Notre Dame is a lock to earn a spot in one of the game's most lucrative bowls. Yeah, that seems right, doesn't it? Of the top 12 teams in the latest BCS rankings, it's the Irish who are the least deserving of a bid (Say what you want about Boise State, but the Broncos beat everyone on their schedule, including Oregon State). Look at the way Notre Dame performed in the losses to the Wolverines and Trojans and tell me it's still one of the best teams in the country. Its only quality wins came against Georgia Tech and Penn State, while the Irish had to comeback and beat subpar Michigan State and UCLA (who was without its starting QB). But come Jan. 3 the Irish (who are 10th in the latest BCS standings) will likely be in the Sugar Bowl against the SEC champ while teams like Wisconsin (7th) and Auburn (11th) will be shut out of the showcase bowl games. It's as much an indictment of a system that won't allow three teams from the same conference to get BCS berths, a system that ought to be retooled to give the best 12 teams a shot, period, not the best teams that meet certain qualifiers. This year it means that the Badgers and Tigers are automatically left out while Ohio State and Michigan take the Big Ten bids, while the SEC champ (Arkansas or Florida) and likely LSU take the SEC's invites. It also means the Irish will be able to reap the benefits of being one of the best teams in the country because of a 10-2 mark and a system that allows them to play in a top-teir bowl, even if with two blowout losses in their biggest games, they have shown they don't belong.
| Is there any doubt the BCS doesn't work, and teams from tough conferences are getting the shaft? |

For the love of God, we need more people saying things that make sense.
Notre Dame may not deserve a BCS bid... But they are probably getting one. |

The BCS isn't designed to put the 10 best teams in the 5 best bowls; it is designed to put the conference winners in the best bowls against 4 other teams that might make good games or interesting stories while providing a 1 vs. 2 matchup for the title.
I don't much like the BCS system, either, but Notre Dame is just as deserving of being in it as whoever wins the ACC or Boise St. |

They were made to look JV in both of those games. Their other games?
Georgia Tech, Penn State, Michigan State, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, Navy, North Carolina, Air Force, Army.
Ooooooooooh. |

Ooooooooooh. | Georgia Tech and Penn State are the only two teams they beat worth bragging about......Michigan St......decent team, bad coaching.....Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, Navy,North Carolina, Air Force, and Army.....Right of the top of my head out of those only 2 of those teams are bowl eligible.....that's UCLA and Purdue...Correct me if I'm wrong.....Navy might be bowl eligible too...Not sure |

| | VN GURU | It would be fitting for Boise St to play Notre Dame in the BCS Bowl since neither are deserving. It will be more fun watching ND & Boise St get beat by 20+ pts again by a quality team. |
