Why is Boise State being projected into a BCS Bowl?

NCAA Football Bowl Predictions - CBS SportsLine.com

SI.com - Writers - Stewart Mandel's Bowl Projections - Monday November 20, 2006 11:45AM

Last time I checked they have only played 4 teams with winning records, and none of them even close to be ranked in the top 25.

SI.com - College Football - Boise State Team Schedules/Results

Yet we are suppose to believe they are one of the top 12 teams in the country? Would not UT, FL, Ark, LSU, Auburn be undefeated if they played their schedule? When one SEC team is being projected for a BCS bowl?

It's not who you beat but how you beat them.......They will hopefully learn their lesson if they put Boise State in a BCS bowl game and watched them get smacked around like they did last year when they played Georgia.....They'll see then....Hopefully

How many times does this have to be explained?

in the old BCS format...BSU probably doesn't get in...they added a 5th game specifically to get other teams from other conferences a chance at the big pay day. if you are a team like BSU, TCU, Tulane, Fresno St etc, etc, etc, and you find yourself undefeated and ranked highly enough...you are eligible for a bcs at large berth.

it has nothing to do with "fair" or "best teams". it's about money plain and simple and a reward for teams like this that schedule ooc well and don't have a legit shot a national title.

remember the class action law suit that was being planned on behalf of the non bcs conferences???

that was a big part of the reason why they expanded the BCS landscape, to open up more at large spots.

Here's a thought: if teams like Boise St., TCU, even Louisville, etc. want to merit serious consideration for the NC game, or a BCS bowl in general, make 'em start scheduling better teams in the non-conference schedule. What are they afraid of, exactly? Personally, I would love to see Boise St. play a home-and-home two-game series vs. UT.

If its not "fair" and doesn't reward the "best teams" then why are we using this system?

Wasn't that the idea, to create a system that would be fair to everyone?

Whats the point of having a championship system that everyone acknowledges isnt fair?

Bingo.

But now they will never schedule anyone ranked because they can get a BCS bowl by playing no one who is even close to being a top 25 team.

If that is the qualification then I should be playing for the NC.

so wait...L'ville if i remember correctly, is a MEMBER OF A BCS LEAGUE, RIGHT?

and the other teams...they do have conferences they play in. and they don't always necessarily get to decide who their ooc games will be. remember, the big boys are the ones that go out and find fillers for their schedules. And a lot of the big boys are fililng those games with better opponents, not all, but some. And then in the Pac 10, instead of adding another non conference team, they added another conference game. so there's 10 teams and 10 games a year taken away from some of these non bcs league teams to play a BCS school.

and as far as "afraid"....why do you think they want a shot to play in the BCS is in the first place? they want to prove it on the feild...when in actuality, it's the BCS conf. schools seeking 1-AA schools as filler games instead of some of those teams....

reality is the non bcs leagues have very little control over who they play non conference wise.

Boise State is currently ranked #11 in the BCS standings. They are guaranteed a spot in a BCS game if they finish in the top twelve, which they will if they don't lay an egg against Nevada. (I think. They change the rules every year, so it can be hard to keep up.)

I agree that there are at least five SEC teams that could be undefeated if they played Boise's schedule. Boise is a joke; it was obvious that the emperor had no clothes last year when they got obliterated by Georgia to begin the year. But yet here they are again, soaking up a BCS spot that could actually go to a good team. They won't actually serve a useful purpose in the system until there is a playoff and they provide a first-round patsy for the #1 seed.

But hey, you never know -- by the Non-Existent Law Of Football Transitivty, Boise >>> Oregon State >>> USC. Put 'em in the championship game!

Alot of our coaches dont want to play them. They help none if we win, and they take you out if you loose.

What I would like to see them do is, take Louisville, Maryland, West virgina, Boise State,ND and all the other whiner teams that beleive they can compete, build a new conference just for them, bust the rest of their crappy conference teams down to D2 and make these teams play each other, and see how many go undefeated. No D1 school is allowed to play a d2, and make them play other good conferences. Look at this year for example, WV, Rutgers, and Looserville where all undefeated and highly ranked until they played each other, now none are, who have they played, and why are they still ranked so high?
The way it is set up, why schedule a good nonconference game. Think about it, if Arkansas had played Montana State instead of USC they would be undefeated right now, and probably no 2 in the nation. Sure there would be people who would say who did they play? but, it wouldnt matter because they played enough good teams to win. I also feel that any team that wants to be considered for a bcs bowl should have to play a CCG, or give a set amount of points per game played, that way if you do not play a championship game you are at a disadvantage.JMO GO Vols
