They suck more.

Life has not been the best in Pac-10 land. Oregon State got embarassed by Boise State on national television. But you know what? Boise State will probably be vying for a BCS game by season's end. Other non-conference games have been alright, too. Respectable showings, which is more than others can say...

And look at the other conferences. The ACC looks horrible so far. I made my points in the Maryland/West Virginia game thread. Virginia Tech is the only ACC team that hasn't been embarassed in some way so far this season.

Then the Big XII. Texas, the conference favorite looked absolutely helpless vs. Ohio State. The other conference heavyweight just had trouble putting away Pac-10 cellar dweller Washington, and have a very tough test ahead of them in Eugene. Outside of that, you have an empty threat in Texas Tech hidden behind big numbers against inferior competition. Then talentless teams in Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Baylor. The North is still the North. We are all familiar with how bad Colorado has looked. Missouri is toast without Brad Johnson, Kansas and KState suck like usual (albeit Kansas is on the rise as a program, for whatever that's worth). The only good team in the division, Nebraska, is going to be put to the test as crazy underdogs in Los Angeles.

The Big East sucks.

So, in spite of some bad showings, the Pac is still runnin' as the third best conference in the country. It gets solidified this week if Oregon can beat Oklahoma.

I disagree about your thoughts on Mizzou. Chase Daniel looks like the real deal at QB replacing Brad Smith, who I THINK you were trying to talk about. We'll see once they hit that Big XII schedule, but as weak as most of the other teams look...

In the end it doesn't matter... The SEC and Big 11 are head and shoulders above the other conferences for being topheavy with good teams. The others aren't even close.

Yeah. My bad. Brad Smith.

Agreed. Cal's big win over Minnesota might be indicative of a big turnaround, which I said if they managed to pull off, they could still finish top half of the Pac.

So, my conference rankings with distance between conference indicating difference in quality.

1. SEC

2. Big Ten

3. Pac-10

4. Big XII

5. ACC

6. Big East
7. Mountain West

I'm not sure I'd quite put that much difference between the BigXII/ACC and the Pac... otherwise I agree. Depending on how the season plays out the Big11 may wind up above the SEC on the list.

I don't see that happening. I know the Big Ten does have Ohio State going for them, but Michigan is possibly a program on the decline... They have a lot riding on this week's game vs. Notre Dame. If they manage the upset, I would put the Big Ten and SEC right about neck-and-neck, only because I'm not sold on anybody in the SEC as a legit national title contender, whereas the Big Ten has one for sure in Ohio State.

And I do think there is a big difference between the Pac-10 and ACC/Big XII. The other two conferences have had many multiple straight up embarassing losses, while the Pac-10's only upset loss has been San Jose State over Stanford, 35-34. Some would like to point out Boise State's destruction of Oregon State, I think it very likely for Boise State to be playing in a BCS game by season's end.

Well, while we weren't terribly surprised, nationally the Cal loss to UT was an upset.

Boise is good no doubt, but I think one may slip away from them without Hawkins.

Do you realize how bad San Jose State is?

The Pac Ten hasn't even played a game yet this week and the excuse thread has already been made?!

I think milo might be selling his beloved Pac Ten a little short as well... I'd almost put them closer to the Big Ten than he has. Other than Ohio State this year, who is there? Penn State is down/rebuilding, Michigan hasn't looked that impressive and could likely lose on Saturday, Iowa has their QB knicked up... who is there besides that that would be considered a legit threat?

At least in the Pac Ten you've got USC without question, Oregon could take a big step this weekend, and Cal looked really good against Minnesota.

Back to the Big Ten... is Michigan State, Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin, or Illinois supposed to have a breakout year? I believe we can remove NU, IU, and IU from that list after last week.

I would have said Iowa would be really good, then they took OT to beat Syracuse. Know what Tiddy? You just separated the SEC over the Big11 in my mind. Too many top 10-15 teams in the conference.

Marginally better than Montana State and Richmond, off the top of my head.

Given the circumstances, if Oregon doesn't take care of business at home Saturday they immediately shoot to the top of the list of fraud programs in the country. The same goes for Louisville.
