Air Force vs. Vanderbilt?!!!

My friend (who is a Bama fan) and I got into a discussion about our teams' last week opponents.

He was ragging me about thee Vol's 1 pt. victory against Air Force, and I, likewise, told him how lame Bama was for not whipping the Commadores.

He then goes on to say that Vanderbilt was a much better team than Air Force, and would destroy them in a game. I had a good laugh about his comment until I realized he wasn't joking!

I personally think he's out of his mind, and that Air Force would OWN Vanderbilt. What do you guys think?

Air Force would win that game by at least 2 TD's.

It would probably be one heck of a ballgame, but I think Air Force would end up winning.

They both blow. And the Tide and Vols should both be chewed out for giving both teams a chance to win. Neither game should have been close if either of our teams played anywhere near to their potential. Maybe this week we can both get it together, granted yall have a heckuva bigger test than us! Good luck, again!!

I'm not convinced that Vandy is as completely horrid as some people think. At the very least, they are well coached.

Milo making more bold predictions: Vanderbilt finishes 5th or 6th in the SEC East.

Nah, they are still pretty bad though. I don't think Vanderbilt was running a perfectly executed triple option.

I have heard from some friends, (unbiased buckeye fans) who have gameplan who were watching the game, and they said it was incredible because when Air Force was on offense, usually he had no idea who had the ball, because they were so good at the option.

and that is the key. Take any team that has a near perfect game and see if they don't play right alongside anyone but the very best.

LSU and Auburn would wad AF's gimmick offense into a ball and kick it all the way back to Colorado Springs.

Probably true, but I think Tennessee's would most of the time, as well, or at least controlled it much better. I'm sticking with the theory that this was a 2 or three touchdown better performance by the Vols except for a late meltdown beginning with Ainge's interception, but I didn't have the pleasure of watching it, only listening to it on the radio.

I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy, though, so it is easier for me to think that we had a period of inexplicably poor play than it is to think we cannot contain the offense of the 7th best team in the WAC, no matter how unconventional. And I really, really hope that I'm right

Right, because so many schools that do no face the option on a regular basis, hold AF to less than 25 points...

TCU held AF to 10 points in 2005. TCU also played these teams in order, Army, AF, San Diego St., and Colorado State...all run variances of the option.

In 2004, Cal held AF to 14 points...It was Cal's season opener.

In 2002, ND held AF to 14 points, won by 7. In the bowl game that year, VT held AF to 13 points (had a month to prepare and focus solely on the Triple Option.)

UT had a week to prepare for the Triple Option (I highly doubt Fulmer and Chavis focused on much other than defending against Cal in the preseason.) I also doubt they focused that much on the Triple Option in the week leading up to the game, as Florida was looming on the horizon. We could lose to AF and it would not affect our shot at the SEC East title. We do not have that luxury against Florida.
