What qualifies something as a Sport?

As ESPN is willing to televise almost any type of competition, I am wondering what it takes for something to qualify as a sport for some of you? Is anything involving a competition between individuals or teams a sport? Or does it take more?

Off of the top of my head:

It has to require some sort of physical talent and involve competition.

In my mind, it has to be measurable (score, distance, points) not subjective (ice skating).

Remember what the "E" in ESPN stands for.

The "E" stands for entertainment.

Poker is a game, not a sport.

I was just referencing them, really more interested in how people decide if something is a sport or not?

So is golf a sport? It doesn't really have the physical part to it

If you don't think golf takes physical skill, go play a round under par.

i play golf, but i don't consider walkin around in dress clothes n hittin a little white ball with some irons a sport. i love the contact sports, and even running sports because that takes a lot out of you. but golf i've always struggled with it being a sport. great game though
