Kirk Herbstreit Pre season Awards

Just saw these on ESPN.com.

Few things that jump out at me. First he picks UT to win the East.

He has Jeff Samardzija listed as the best WR in the nation, to me that is a stretch. I am going with Calvin Johnson or Dwayne Jarrett.

Doesnt list Justin Harrell as one of the top 5 DT. Mistake.

Has us listed as a team on the way up, and Florida as a team on the way down. Very interesting.

In the list of unknowns that will we know by October he has Cal's QB Nate Longshore listed. Now unless i read it wrong, Longshore isnt even starting. Jeff Ayoob is. HMMMMMMMMM

Has Cal's coach Tedford listed as his 2nd best Playcaller. Is Tedford that good??? Hat i expect you to lecture me on this one.

This one really pisses me off. Best defensive minds, John Chavis is nowhere to be seen. I know i am biased but come on, Chief is at least in the top 5 in the nation.

And lastly, and this pisses me off too, He has a top 10 of gameday locations and Tennessee is knowwhere to be found. BS. He is obviously a homer b/c he chose Ohio St. as number 1.

Anyway take a look for yourselves and weigh in on this list. I think Herbstreit is one the best "experts" espn has.

On Chavis being not mentioned. I kinda agree with that and heres why....although at the end of the day he gets a lotta wins for UT he does give up a lotta yards. Its kinda like a bend but don't break defense, depends on your measuring stick I guess.

Samardzija should be the preseason pick for WR of the year. He has a great advantage over both Johnson and Jarrett...HE HAS BRADY QUINN THROWING HIM THE BALL! Whether or not one likes his "man mane" or not, Samardzija proved himself as a legit WR last season, while sharing receptions with Stovall.

Gotta agree with Dan on the Chavis disscusion. When your defense gives up a ton of yards it's hard to get honored for your defense. I have to give Jarrett a clear edge over Samardzija.

Clear edge? Sanchez and/or JD Booty throwing you the ball or Brady Quinn???? Jarrett had Leinart throwing him the ball last year and only had 25 more receiving yards and 14 more receptions than Samarzija...

Like Kirk picked us and not Corso. No curse. Kirk does have a tendency to be more right then Corso. Think you are right in the fact of being biased on the Big Ten as far as best Game Day locations being at Ohio. Not sure what to think on the Chavis deal. Chavis has done great job but doesn't seem to get the credit in the media and no one is knocking his door down. That one riddles me. Also his UF on the way down. Not sure what he is looking at for this one. Even if they struggle this year they got Tebow in the wings. Something going on in his head that only he knows.

But like Smokeyman said, hey he did pick Tennessee to win the East.

UT's defense was ranked 6th n the nation last year, shows how bad the offense was. So Chavis should be one of the top 5.

Chavis has always put a very good D on the field but they have always been overshadowed by the offense (good and bad).

I hate to admit it but Jeff Samardjahgthry is a great receiver. He deserves to be listed up there.

I'm a little surprised that he doesn't list UT for gamedays. I've always heard him say we are one of his favs. Maybe it's because they don't get to Neyland very much anymore.

6. Auburn -- Like most SEC schools, Auburn has a rabid fan base and a Chick-Fil-A really close to our set.

7. Virginia Tech -- Frank Beamer's fan base adores its Hokies and is always very accommodating to College GameDay -- not to mention a Friday lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings topped off by a blizzard from the DQ.
There's UT's problem... must not be any fast food joints within eye sight of the GameDay set.

agree with you about the WR's...
There are a lot, A LOT of good DT's out there this year...no suprise there for me.
UF's schedule...brutal. @ TN, @ AUB, @ FSU, and home games against LSU, Bama and then the cocktail party. that's the only reason he has them as a down team.
Same reason he has us going up...all the toughies are at home, two real road games @ USC adn @ UGA. schedule is favorable.
agree about Chavis...probably not on there because of our overall performance last season...
they haven't been to TN in a couple of years now, so no suprise that TN is not on the list...
