Looks like Juwan Simpson will be playing for the Tide this Fall.

Marijuana possession charges dropped. Driving erratically and possession of a stolen fire-arm likely to be dropped as well.

Not surprisingly, one of the top criminal defense attorneys in the state defended him (pro bono of course).

Here's an interesting commentary from the Mobile Register about the topic:

More special treatment

I don't know, but sometimes I wish that we had them in Tennessee...

Having spent more than a couple of years in criminal defense before transitioning to corporate law, I can say I've negotiated plenty of deals consistent with this one. I don't see any favorable treatment there. Any college student with a spotless criminal history would receive a similar disposition. I do think the attorney could have chosen his words more carefully. Saying charges are going to "disappear" just doesn't cast the system in a good light.

The gun stuff is a little different than the marijuana. Also curious that he was not given a field sobriety test after being stopped for erratic driving. Finally, it's nice that he gets such fine legal representation!

We'll have to frisk that guy before he takes the field at Neyland.

I guess in Alabama, a stolen gun hidden under the seat of your car isn't a concealed weapon...

Sweet Home Alabama, let me drive through T town swirving and have a pistol under the front seat and I wouldn't be posting for a while.
