The NBA, in its infinite lack of wisdom, has suspended Jerry Stackhouse for his hard foul on Shaq in Game 4. I guess they want the Finals to be contested in a manner consistent with ballroom dancing or canasta.

So far teams that have lost a star player for a game during the playoffs are 2-0.

At least Dallas will have an excuse now if they go down 3-2.

I remember Kevin McHale almost decapitating Kurt Rambis in the '84 Finals and nobody even considered the possibility he'd be suspended. Absent the throwing of a punch, you can't commit a foul flagrant enough to merit suspension. That's my opinion.

That foul was not even remotely close to being bad enough to suspend Stackhouse. I suspect that the NBA League Office isn't convinced that Miami can hang with Dallas, so they're trying to manufacture a Game 7.

Seems to me that if it was worthy of suspension he should have been tossed last game.

They are wrong IMO.Look at all the baseball pitchers that hit players intentionally, and thats a baseball traveling 100 mph.I mean Shaq shot the technical(s).What Bell did to Coby Bryant(clotheslined him) was more blatant than what happened to Shaq.I think Bell was only fined.Am I correct?

Bell got suspended a game as well.

I thought Dallas had won their next game after Jason Terry went after Michael Finley's crotch, but alas they lost that game.

I suspect the NBA League Office saw the 24 point whoopin' Miami laid on the Mavs just fine, Vol423. It was only a matter of time before the best player on the court took over and won the last two games for his team.

I'd still be surprised if Dallas lost the series however, home court is obviously huge and they have two more left in the AAC.

If they had applied standards like these in the '80s and early '90s, Game 7s would have been 3 on 3 because of suspensions.

NBA has too many questions to answer re: officiating. I for one was a HUGE fan of the Pistons back in the day, but (without taking anything away from Jordan) the NBA sold their officiating souls to the devil to make their product more "offensive".

I think Chuck Daly and Pat Riley are the two best coaches of the modern era. However, I will grant that reasonable minds can differ as to whether or not the game became too physical. My issue with this suspension is that you have to allow guys to go hard in the playoffs. Had Shaq been injured, a case could be made for suspension. With no real harm inflicted, a suspension is asinine.

Right on. I remember listening to a conversation about this on the Herd. The playoffs are the time to swallow the whistle, but if the regular season was played like the playoffs there would be no players left to compete.
