PICKS-----

How 'bout we all pick a winner, a fifth place finisher, and a surprise who misses the cut.

Win- Tiger (happy Father's Day Eldrick)
5th- Davis Love III
Missed Cut- Fred Funk

I love this tournament!

Win - I'm sure as heck not picking against Tiger in a tournament that ends on Father's Day. That guy is able to channel his emotions better than any athlete I've ever seen. There's no telling what he'll shoot on Sunday if he's in contention.

5th - Jim Furyk - Guys who fairway and green it to death do well at the Open.

Missed Cut - Vijay Singh - This is probably a stupid pick, but he can get wild and his putter can get shaky which is lethal at the Open.

Thats funny you came right in and picked Vijay to MC. I had his first name already typed out in my picks, and then thought Nahhh... and deleted it...

Great minds my friend... :post-20645-1119625378:

I hate to pick him to miss the cut because he's one of those guys who if he's on can win anywhere. I just hope they don't butcher the course setup and make Winged Foot play impossible. I like the Open, but I'm not one of those that likes to see the greatest players on Earth struggle to shoot +5.

I listened to most of the player interviews on GolfChannel yesterday and to a man, everyone said that Winged Foot was set up perfect. Tough, but fair.
Although in the thickest cut of rough you can be looking straight down at the ball and barely see it!

Winner- Retief Goosen, he knows how to play these tough U.S. Open courses

5th place- Phil Mickelson, his putter will let him down in the final round.

misses cut- Dont everybody be surprised, but his absense from play the last month or so will definately hurt him. Tiger will miss the cut in the Open, thats probably a long shot but he has been through quite a bit and his mind hasnt quite been on golf for a while.

The US Open is also my favorite major. It's always such a struggle.

Hard to go against Tiger (esp as noted on fathers day and their running that tear-jerker commercial about him and his dad).

That said, I'll go with:

Tiger - win

The Big Easy (Els) - 5th

John Daly to miss cut.

John Daly and US Opens don't mix.

I played Cog Hill (Chicago) in a charity event the week of the Western Open about 8 years ago. They had the rough up like that. Caddies would go ahead of your shot so someone could find it!. Early on, I could get out of it but by the end of the day my arms and shoulders were so sore that all I could do was put a wedge on the ball to get it back in the fairway. It gave me a real appreciation of how strong those guys are when they plow through that stuff.

For some strange reason I love watching these guys play courses that chew them up. Once the scores get into double digits under par it is just not as exciting (unless it is one golfer just tearing the course to shreds)
